Nightmare Busters has a lot of hype around it, and for very good reasons. It holds a special place in gaming history as a game that was supposed to be released for the SNES and published by Sony before they took their ball out of Nintendo's court before the arrival of the PlayStation. Still, they say good things come to all those who wait (and drop the ball - I'm looking at you, Sony), and it eventually launched for the SNES in 2013 as an unlicensed game, becoming the first title to be released for the SNES in North America and Europe over a 14-year period. So, while it never made it to shop shelves back in the 90s, it did eventually make its long-awaited arrival on the Super Nintendo and was subsequently snapped up by fans.
Now, Pix'n Love Games are working alongside French Outfit Aurora Games to bring Nightmare Busters back with a new lease of life in Nightmare Busters Rebirth. It's the epitome of two teams putting their heart and souls into a passion project, lovingly reviving a classic with brand-new animations for modern audiences to enjoy on next-gen consoles and PC.
No matter where you follow the story of Pix'n Love's mission to bring back this game, you'll find the same mission statement - a goal of 'bringing together a passionate community to revive a retro gaming treasure'. It's the kind of message we can get behind, a call for supporters to keep retro gaming history alive, and luckily the official Kickstarter Pre-Launch campaign is live now and already amassing followers waiting patiently to bring a slice of 90s run-n-gun action home with them. Check out the official teaser trailer below to get a feel of what's to come, and follow the campaign to be notified when backing begins!
