What Is Pokemon Yellow?

Back in the 90s, the very first Pokemon games – Red and Blue – featured Pikachu, but the electric mouse was hardly a main character.

Thanks to the anime, Pikachu became incredibly popular – which is where Pokemon Yellow comes in.

Pokemon Yellow was an update (and slight remix of) Pokemon Red and Blue, which allowed players to have a Pikachu that would follow them around in-game!

It was great too – check out how highly it ranked on our best Game Boy games list!

What Is A GameShark?

VIEW ON EBAY

Peripherals manufacturer Mad Catz released a line of cheat devices for various consoles, named GameShark.

Unlocking secret content, giving yourself invincibility or infinite lives was done by entering codes into the device’s menu when the game cartridge was inserted.

Can I Use These codes Without A GameShark?

Well technically – yes. There are ways and means of emulating a GameShark, just as you can use emulation to – in turn – play Pokemon Yellow.

We would urge caution if you’re looking at doing anything like that though, as the legality of this sort of thing is dubious at best.

How Do I Enter These Codes Into A GameShark?

Your GameShark will have a Code Manager screen that you can enter these cheats into; if you are emulating (and you already know our thoughts on that!), if your emulator supports these codes, there’ll be a specific section to enter the codes into.

Can Any Of These Codes Ruin My Game Or Save File?

There’s always a risk when entering one or more GameShark codes that the cheat will make your playthrough or save file unstable or corrupt in some way, as you’re effectively ‘breaking’ the game by cheating.

Despite this, it’s still fun experimenting with all of the different effects, particularly some of the more outlandish cheats that make you or your Pokemon significantly overpowered!

Just make sure you do this on a save file that you don’t mind potentially losing or corrupting.

So, armed with all of that knowledge and without further ado, we’re going to look at the best Pokemon Yellow cheats for GameShark!

10. Infinite Battle HP

Want your Pokemon to be invincible? Just enter 01ff15do to get infinite HP in battle!

9. Enemy Can’t Attack – and they’re burned!

How about being in a battle where the enemy can’t even attack you – and they start the battle burned too? Here’s the code you need for that: 0170e8cf

8. Start with a Charizard

Maybe you don’t want to wait to do all of that pesky evolving Pokemon business – how about starting the game with a Charizard, instead of a low level starter? Just enter this code: 01B41ED1

7. Buy Master Balls for Free

Hey, those Pokeballs don’t come cheap you know. So how about getting as many of the strongest types of balls you want – for absolutely free? Just use this code and you’ll never pay for a Master Ball again: 01017CCF

6. Have All Badges

Can’t be bothered to beat all of the gyms and earn gym badges the hard way? No problem at all – just use the GameShark to enter this code and you’ll get them all instantly: 01ff55d3.

5. Never Miss an Attack – and more Critical Hits!

How about being able to ensure that your attacks never miss in a battle – as well as improving the chances of getting a critical hit? Here’s the code you’ll need: 01ffd5cf

4. Infinite Coins for the Casino

The Game Corner in Celadon City is home to the slot machine game, which you’ll need coins to play.

Coins can also be exchanged for prizes, some of which are rare Pokemon that are difficult to get elsewhere.

So to get yourself infinite coins and play as much of the slot machine – or buy as many prizes – as you want, just use these codes: 0199a3d5, 0199a4d5.

3. Infinite Cash

How about having infinite cash in general? We can help with that too!

Just use these codes and you’ll be richer than Scrooge McDuck: 019946D3, 019947D0, 019948D3.

2. Catch Mew

Without a GameShark, the only way to unlock Mew in Pokemon Yellow would have been to attend a special event back in the 90s; obviously, that’s no longer feasible.

So just enter this code and you’ll encounter a Mew in the wild: 0115d7cf.

1. Surfing Pikachu!

One of the coolest extra features that Pokemon Yellow has is a minigame in which Pikachu goes surfing.

Yet the method to unlock it is convoluted and becoming increasingly difficult to pull off as time goes by – it requires an N64 console, a copy of Pokemon Stadium, an N64 Transfer Pak and of course, a Pokemon Yellow cartridge (and a console to play that on too!).

However, if you have a GameShark you don’t need to worry about any of that.

Simply ensure that Pikachu is in first place in your party, then enter the following code: 013973d1. Note that this will remove Pikachu’s learned attacks – if that’s not a problem, it’s time to get that surfboard into the ocean!

And that’s a wrap!

Thanks for checking out this article on the best Pokemon Yellow cheats for GameShark. Hopefully, now you’ll have some epic skills to make Pokemon Yellow even more exciting!
