Beetlejuice Game Boy Mockup Brings An Alternative Look To The Ghost With The Most

Images of the Beetlejuice Game Boy Mockup from Game Boy Demakes

The world has once again gone mad with Beetlejuice fever with the arrival of the new film from Tim Burton. It’s been 36 years since the original film dropped with Michael Keaton as the debaucherous Bio-Exorcist called in by the Maitlands to try and rid their house of the Deetz family, and the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has taken the Global Box Office by storm, proving that fans were more than happy for the juice to be loose once again.

Still, it’s not the film that has caught our eye this morning, but a mockup design for an alternative Beetlejuice Game Boy game from one of our favourite accounts @GameBoyDemakes. They shared their own mockups for their version of the original game which, let’s face it, wasn’t exactly a big hitter. I’ve played the original which now costs an absolute fortune on eBay and didn’t really rate it, which is odd for me as I usually love everything that came from Rare HQ. Still, it felt like a poorly rushed effort to capitalise on the film’s cult status and could have been designed much better.

I’m not just saying this because I’m a fan of GameBoyDemake’s work, but the character sprites and scenarios look a lot more Tim Burton-esque in their version of the game. It all looks a lot more bizarre, and if you’ve read any of my articles before you’ll know that’s the area where I operate the best. It would be interesting to see this made playable in the near future, especially with the media going crazy for the new film right now and retro gaming demakes being more popular than ever. Heck, I was hooked on the Game Boy Color reimagining of Halo: Combat Evolved and there are only two levels!

Of course, if you’re looking to get into the world of the Maitlands, or even their model in the attic, then you can always jump into this Super Mario 64 ROM hack as shared by Alice In Mansion Land on YouTube below. The name of the mod is a little odd, but for hardcore fans of the movie who wish it had a more 3D Mushroom Kingdom feel to it, then it’s definitely worth a look!
