When Kurko Mods made The Bear Waker mod and put Banjo-Kazooie onto Outset Island, I didn't think it could get much better. That mod is amazing, and seeing my favourite Rare heroes running around outside Link's Grandma's house never gets old.
But seeing Link and Aryll in 8-bit form in a Wind Waker GBC demake, now that's something different entirely!
Aritst and Gamer RayJelly has shared their work on this demake of The Wind Waker titled 'Zelda: Link's Wind-Wakening' on X. While the original video was posted back in December 2025, I actually saw it for the first time today shared in a post about chocovania working on a GBC version of Ocarina of Time (but don't read that until you've finished here, because there's a lot of Wind Waker chat to come!).

This early concept for the Wind Waker definitely has a Link's Awakening feel to it, hence RayJelly's pun. The recreation of Aryll looking through her telescope is amazing, as is the 8-bit version of the Outset Island theme. It's got me reaching for my RetroFighters GameCube controller and praying for lunchtime to come around so I can play some Wind Waker again!

Just look at Aryll's lookout in glorious 8-bit visuals. It's like The Wind Waker was always a GBC title along with Oracle of Ages & Seasons. I mean, it would twin with Seasons perfectly; there's always a lot of wind in the UK through every season, so I can see a link there (if only a tenuous one...).
This is all the information we've got on this Wind Waker GBC concept right now, but now that both this and chocovania's Ocarina of Time demake are out on X, I'm hoping the excitement from the Zelda fans will spur both creators on to make these releases happen sooner rather than later!
