Angry Birds was one of the first mobile games I can remember getting excited for. The little app symbol was on pretty much every phone across the globe, with the series becoming such a phenomen that they even made a movie based on the characters.
Who would have thought that firing little birds at pigs would have become such a hit? It's such a simple concept that anyone can play, and now, thanks to Itch.io user Aki, there's now an 8-bit version for Game Boy and Game Boy Color to give it a retro twist.

If you were living under a rock through the smartphone revolution and missed Angry Birds, then the concept of the original game revolves around using your touchscreen to fire birds at green pigs on different structures. The birds all have different abilities, and you encounter new playable characters as you move through the levels.
In the Game Boy Color version, players choose from four different directions to fire their birds. The catapult fires, Red goes zooming, and if you've chosen right, a pig will meet its end.

The game looks great, but the only problem at this stage is that there is only one level. As the game went live a couple of hours ago at the time of writing this article, it's still very early days in its development, and Aki has assured us that more levels are coming and that they were just excited to share it with the world.
This definitely has some potential as a demake, and if there were more levels, I could definitely see myself sitting back to play this intensely like the good old days. Keep up the good work, Aki - give the people what we want! You can either play this game in your browser or download to play on your Analogue Pocket, Flash Cart, or favourite emulator.
