Many of us have been hoping for GameCube games to hit the Nintendo Online service for a while now. It's one of the things I've consistently mentioned every time I've covered rumours about the Nintendo Switch 2 because the system has long been rumoured to be much more powerful than its predecessor and capable of bringing GameCube classics like Star Fox Adventures and Mario Kart Double Dash!! to the table. Now, an FCG filing leak has revealed that a GameCube controller is in the works for the new console, and with Nintendo's past history of releasing themed controllers when new consoles arrive on the platform, it makes me think that I could be putting in an order for a controller come the Nintendo Direct this April.
When N64 games arrived on the NSO platform, Nintendo released an N64 controller to use with them. The same goes for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games, so the idea of GC games arriving on the new console only seems logical following this train of thought.
Obviously, all we have to go on is the news of a leak that definitely shouldn't have gotten out, but the fact of the matter is that it's out there and we should know more about its credibility in a few weeks. Still, let's talk about some of the games that we might get to use it with - The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Gauntlet Dark Legacy (probably a niche one but still), Sonic Adventure 2 Battle... the list goes on. I was already going to order a Switch 2 on pre-order day, but if GameCube games arrive on day one, my decision will feel even more justified!
