After 20 Years, Konami Finally Confirms Suspicions About Who Voiced Eva In Metal Gear Solid 3

Solving mysteries from Retro Gaming’s past never gets old; the fact that we’re still discovering things from games, gadgets, and accessories from 20 and 30 years ago blows my mind and makes me respect the devs who made them even more! Just take a look at this secret discovered in an old Tamagotchi from the 90s and tell me you’re not impressed!

This time, however, it’s a mystery that many of us thought we knew the answer to but didn’t actually have the proof – the voice of The Russian Spy Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. For 90s kids growing up and eventually playing this game when it dropped in 2004, the voice felt incredibly familiar, a voice that many of us had heard while watching VHS films with our families. It sounds like the Little Mermaid, but surely the same voice put to Poseidon’s daughter couldn’t end up in an MGS game?

Well, after 20 years, Konami has finally told us that it was in fact Jodi Benson who voiced both characters. According to Eurogamer, Jodi went by Suzetta Miñet, a pseudonym described by Benson herself as a means of protecting her ‘family-friendly’ image. The name was based on her childhood dog, and it kept the work on MGS3 separate from her other work. And when you watch the cutscene below, you can understand why they suggested the change!

When I tell you some of the TV Shows and Films that Benson has been involved with, then you’ll be instantly transported back to the 90s in a flash. Pepper Ann, the Hercules TV Show, Toy Story 2, Lady & The Tramp 2 in 2001 – the list goes on! She’s also appeared in Kingdom Hearts, Aladdin, & Bug’s Life video games – so very much a Disney-based career. It’s great that she branched out into the world of Metal Gear Solid and more adult-themed games, but I totally get why she wanted to keep it separate.

So, now you know. The mystery has been solved, and you can put that open case into the closed file forever! Now you can fill your brain with other stuff like how Tom Tilley made a Hoverboard from a vacuum cleaner!
