If you're a fan of Sonic The Hedgehog and have wondered what his powers could do against skyscraper-tall monsters in comic form, then today's news is going to put an end to that wonder.

Revealed by IGN, it has been announced that Nick Marino, the writer behind Godzilla Rivals, is teaming up with Jack Lawrence (Sonic The Hedgehog artist) and Reggie Graham (colourist) to create an exclusive series of comics that brings Sonic and Godzilla head to head.

IDW, the owners of the Sonic The Hedgehog and Godzilla comic liceneses decided it was time to put together their most popular characters into one line of awesome comics.

Which makes sense because both franchises are exploding in popularity right now, so if you ask me, it's perfect timing.

"IDW is constantly brainstorming new potential crossovers, and we’ve always been especially excited about the possibility of bringing these two iconic licenses together," Sonic Editorial tells IGN.

"This crossover in particular is also one that fans have been asking us for loud and clear for years, so it’s been high up on the list to try to make happen. Who wouldn’t want to see the Blue Blur vs the King of the Monsters, after all? So this idea has actually been on the IDW team’s radar for a very long time, but it wasn’t until the last year or so that all the pieces fell into place and we could get to work on it! We’re lucky to have such a great creative team to bring this story to life, and of course, this crossover would not have been possible without a tremendous amount of support from Sega and Toho!"

In this world, there are no humans (apart from Dr. Eggman), so Marino has gone all in on solely populating this series with Kaiju, Robots and our favourite talking animals with huge inspiration taken from one of the best SEGA Dreamcast games ever made, Sonic Adventure.

"Sonic Adventure became a huge inspiration on this project somewhere in the second-ish year of development. When you're dealing with giant monsters, you have to think on a bigger scale, and Station Square provided an incredible canvas for us to splatter with destruction and mayhem. My collaborators, Jack Lawrence and Reggie Graham, have risen to the challenge, depicting that special city with jaw-dropping detail".

Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla #1 will be released in Summer 2026, so keep an eye on your local comic book store!
