If the testimony of a former Virtuos employee is to be trusted, then we should anticipate that a The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake is currently in development.

This wouldn’t be the first remake that Virtuos had their hands on. It also wouldn’t be the first time a game was leaked by former employees of the international game studio.

Virtuos had a part in the Final Fantasy XII remaster, Darksouls Remastered, and Bioshock: The Collection, to name a few.

And leaks of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remaster were also previously traced back to former employees (as seen in this Xfire article).

Oblivion Remaster/Remake

It would seem that an estranged former Virtuos employee has turned to Reddit to expose an Oblivion remake currently in the works.

Of course, it would be tough to determine the legitimacy of this leak until the game is officially announced by Bethesda themselves.

So we will only ever know if this information is true in hindsight once the game is official to the general public.

But according to the ex-employee, the “Altar” project is an Oblivion remaster project, with a full remake still on the table.

The remaster/remake is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, a current generation game engine that offers a ton of visual and performance improvements.

Additionally, the leaker claims that the game should be released at the end of 2024 or early 2025.

Early Thoughts

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I take these kinds of anonymous leaks with a grain of salt. It’s very easy to just say anything you want on the internet and get people excited.

We cannot know if this is truly an ex-employee of Virtuos or just a random person on the internet making up stories.

More often than not, “leaks” and “rumors” end up being absolutely nothing.

But every once in a while, we get an official announcement that had a leak associated with it a year or two prior.

Obviously, there would be a giant audience for a The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster or remake.

As one of the best PS3 RPG games and many people’s favorite entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise, it’s no surprise to see it revisited for current generation hardware.

But even if the leak is true, that means we still have at least a year until the game would release.

So we have our fingers crossed, but are not holding our breath. Time will tell.
