A new upcoming remaster of Red Dead Redemption may have just been leaked by the Korean Media Ratings Board.
Which is feeling a bit like déjà vu, since it was just earlier this week that a Quake II Remaster was also leaked by the same ratings board.
So game studios will surely be a bit unhappy with them, but we are glad they keep slipping up. Keep those ratings coming, Korea!
Red Dead Redemption
The original Red Dead Redemption title released in 2010 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. And it quickly became one of the best titles for both consoles.
In fact, it made our best PS3 games AND best Xbox 360 games lists.
The base game was super enjoyable and exactly the type of game you’d expect from Rockstar Games. They could have easily just left it at that, and called it a success.
But Rockstar decided to double down and gave us Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, which became a hit on its own.
In fact, I purchased the game specifically for the Undead Nightmare expansion.
Red Dead Redemption II released in 2018 and was one of the most impressive followups in video game history.
RDR II is on our list of the most popular video games today and it is also in the top 10 on Metacritic’s best video games of all time.
But perhaps the greatest honor of all… it’s also on my own personal top 10 of all time.
Because RDR II also came out on PC, we have seen some incredible fan-made mods that make the game look absolutely stunning by adding things like photo realistic textures and ray tracing.
The base game is already quite beautiful with little room for improvement. But it is still fascinating to see the possibilities when everything becomes as maxed out as possible.
Long time fans of the Red Dead franchise have been hoping to also see the first title come to PC. Or even better yet, to get an official remaster in the new RDR II engine.
And if the Korean ratings board leak is to be trusted, then we might be getting exactly that.
Remaster
If a remaster of Red Dead Redemption is incoming, then we would expect that we would get the same incredible story line, now in the RDR II game engine.
Which would deliver massive improvements to the graphic fidelity of the first game.
We could also anticipate a Red Dead remaster to be made for PC via the Steam Store, which means fan-made mods to give it that full RTX ray traced treatment.
And what would surely be the most exciting thing for fans: Undead Nightmare in the RDRII visual style.
Sign me up!
As per usual, we cannot take this leak to be fact until the news comes officially from Rockstar Games themselves.
But it is always exciting to think of the possibilities. And this would surely be massive news if a remaster of Red Dead is real!
