Game Boy Advance fans will surely be excited to hear that three new Mario classic games are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion in May.

Nintendo is riding the Super Mario wave with the massive success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, and adding three new titles to their premium Switch Online package makes sense.

While it would be hard to ignore the fact that all three of these titles are already available on the Nintendo Switch Online service at the lower tier…

Let’s go ahead and take a look at the three Mario titles coming on May 26th.

Super Mario Advance

Super Mario Advance

Super Mario Advance is the Game Boy Advance version of Super Mario Bros. 2 that appeared in the Super Mario All-Stars collection.

An important difference to recognize, as this is not the same as the original Super Mario Bros. 2 from the Nintendo Entertainment System.

However, this version of the game did make an appearance on our list of the best Gameboy Advance (GBA) games.

And if you’ve never experienced the Super Mario All-Stars remakes, they are gorgeous re-imaginings of the first three classic Mario games.

This is Super Mario Bros. 2 made in the Super Mario World engine, so the graphics and audio are really incredible.

Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2

Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2

This is maybe my favorite Mario video game of all time (the original Super Nintendo version).

Super Mario Advance 2 is the Game Boy Advance version of Super Mario World.

In this iteration, Luigi is a playable character from the beginning of the game, which is the main difference from the SNES version.

To accommodate the GBA format, some design and level changes were made. But overall, you’re gonna get the same experience that you’d have playing the Super Nintendo version.

If you’re a massive GBA fan, this is gonna probably be one of the absolute best entries to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Super Mario Advance 3 is the Game Boy Advance version of Super Mario World 2 aka Yoshi’s Island.

Much like with Super Mario Advance 2, there were some necessary changes made to accommodate the GBA format.

The biggest change were the graphics. They made quite a lot of retouches to the shading to make things more detailed and add clarity.

And the biggest addition were the six new levels added called “Secret Stages”. These are unlocked by defeating Baby Bowser.

This is going to be the number one reason to play the GBA version over the SNES version, because this is entirely new content for fans of Yoshi’s Island.

But essentially, you’re gonna get the same wonderful game experience that is available on the Super Nintendo console.
