If you’ve discovered the Shrine right next to Kakariko Village and are as stumped as I was, you’re in luck because this guide is all about how to solve Makasura Shrine in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Most of the Shrines dotted across both the land and sky are designed to get your brain ticking, but this one only resulted in my brain overheating from thinking too hard! Yet, once you know the correct way to reach the altar, this puzzle becomes painfully obvious.
Yes, the Legend of Zelda once again manages to make us feel both highly intelligent and incredibly dumb at the same time.
Fortunately, you don’t have feel the frustration I did because I suffered that on your behalf. So, sit back and relax because it’s time to solve Makasura Shrine – that Light of Blessing will be ours!
How To Solve Makasura Shrine In Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom
The key to solving Makasura Shrine is to use those Zonai Stabilisers to create a catapult to get you to the altar; when you activate the device, it’ll spring up and Link will go flying.
That’s the short version, here’s the long, detailed, Emma found out the hard way version:
For the catapult to work, you need two very specific pieces of the trellis joined together – the one with a lip and one with the half bowl.
Getting the first one of these is easy because it’s accessible from the beginning. But the other trellis is behind metal bars…
To change this, you need to hit the stabiliser attached to the trellis with a ledge so that it stands on end, then use UItrahand to move it next to the bars with the ball behind them. Use Ascend to get onto the ledge, then jump down on the other side.
There’s a chest here which is very simple to get; attach the stabiliser to the trellis, then move it so you can climb onto the ledge. Your reward is a Fairy Tonic.
Now you’ve opened the chest, you need to get that ball over the bars and into its recess; simplicity itself. Attach the ball to the trellis with the half bowl, then strike the stabiliser to rise it up.
Ultrahand Ball!
Just Ultrahand again to move the trellis close to the bars, then Ascend on top of the bars so you can Ultrahand the trellis and ball to freedom. All that’s left is to unstick the ball and drop it in the hole.
I should point out that you don’t really need to do this because you have all the equipment you necessary to reach the end. But if you’re a completionist, it helps to know these things.
Right, now we need to get to that altar.
Catapulting Time
Flip the trellis with the ledge so it lies flat on the ground with the ledge pointing up, before attaching the other to its end (see pic below). Basically, you want to be able to stand in the bowl.
Attach two Zonai Stabilisers to the lip and you’re good to go! A quick FYI: move the structure near the edge of the room so you get maximum range.
Position Link in the bowl, then strike it to activate the stabilisers (not sure why this works, but it’s best not to ask questions). Link will fly through the air, allowing you to glide to the altar and get that blessing.
The last part of this Shrine is the confusing bit; the first couple of puzzles are easy-peasy to solve. If in doubt, just remember that those stabilisers will raise the trellis, allowing you to reach new heights.
