We are about to ruffle some feathers around here in the Dodo nest as we break down the best bird Pokemon of all time!

How convenient that our own mascot is a bird, the puns just flow naturally.

Hopefully any of you quacks out there don’t let the insults fly if we leave your favorite bird Pokémon off the list. Don’t tweet us.

God, I’m annoyed at myself already!

Let’s get to serious business: the best bird Pokemon of all time… according to a Dodo.

15. Staraptor

Staraptor

Where a Hawlucha is an honorable fighter in the ring, the Staraptor is more of a street thug.

They are reckless and aggressive, despite their size and are known to pick fights with larger Pokémon due to their confidence in their power.

Considered a Normal/Flying Pokémon, as introduced in Gen 4, they are the final form of a Starly.

I just kinda like these guys, cause they look like they have attitude. And even though they are troublemakers, I can respect that “don’t mess with me” attitude they carry.

14. Pidgeot

Pidgeot is the O.G Bird Pokémon, the final evolution of the annoying Pidgeys that seem to crop up absolutely everywhere in Pokemon Red and Blue.

With 83 HP and 75 Defence, it’s not the strongest Pokémon when it comes to longevity in battle, but compared to how weak Pidgey was, it felt like a miracle when we finally got Pidgeot in our ranks.

Speed wise, Pidgeot’s 101 is pretty darn impressive. It means you’ll get in there first with your attacks and manage to beat the competition in most cases.

With an Attack of 80 and 75 for both Sp. Attack and Defence, Pidgeot might not be the strongest or best bird Pokémon of all time, but it sure knows how to hold its own against opponents far tougher and won’t back down in a hurry!

13. Sirfetch’d

Sirfetch’d’s Attack and Defence stats are super impressive! Who knew a sharpened leak and a leaf shield could be so powerful in battle!

With an Attack of 135 and a Defence stat of 95, Sirfetch’d is able to knock down those hit points with normal attacks and proves hardy to most attacks without having to look to Sp. Defence (which is 82).

Sirfetch’d doesn’t do well against Flying, Psychic, or Fairy type Pokemon, so watch out for those joining the fray, especially if they are packing a faster speed than our leaky knight’s 68!

12. Hawlucha

Hawlucha - Best Bird Pokemon

Besides being a cocky bird luchador, a Hawlucha is a dual type fighting/flying Pokémon from Gen 6.

In the anime, they were the champion fighter of the forest. Ash challenged him to a fight, and even though Ash lost the fight, Hawlucha joined him out of respect.

These guys are known for showing off in battle, because they are such good fighters.

Their signature move, the Flying Press, is a dangerous attack from above that is both a Fighting and Flying type move.

Hawluchas are fighters for the sake of fighting, and that’s something I love.

11. Braviary

Braviary takes the 11th spot in our list of the best Bird Pokémon of all time, swooping into battle with an Uber-impressive Attack stat of 123 and a useful HP of 100 straight off the bat.

Or should that be ‘off the bird’ in this case?

Unfortunately, everything else is a little tame compared to this bird Pokémon’s scary exterior.

With a Defence and Sp. Defence of 75 and a paltry (not poultry) Sp. Attack stat of 57, it isn’t going to last very long in battle.

80 Speed might get you attacking first, but it’s going to be a tough call against some of the hardier opponents in this list from this point onwards!

10. Talonflame

Talonflame is one of the speediest bird Pokemon around, with a whopping 126 Speed stat.

So, if you’re looking to pull ‘Fly’ out of the moves bag straight away, then this could be the bird to do it with!

Unfortunately, everything else tends to suffer from here.

Talonflame is hounded by middle of the road stats across the rest of the board, but manages to do well Defence wise against everything bar Water, Electric, & Rock Pokémon.

9. Empoleon

Empoleon is perfect for throwing out Sp. Attack moves with a juicy stat of 111.

It’s 101 Sp. Defence isn’t shabby either, though I guess it isn’t based on the Emperor Penguin, the worlds greatest Penguin in my opinion, for no reason!

So it’s good with and against Sp. Attacks, but what about everything else?

Well, it’s not exactly a show stopping Pokémon, but it gets the job done alright. With 84 HP, 86 Attack, and 88 Defence, it’s hardy but hardly a threat against the likes of Ho-oh.

Stay away from Electric, Ground, and Fighting type Pokemon if you want to make it to the end of the battle without being knocked out before your first attack!

8. Blaziken

Blaziken - Best Bird Pokemon

What, another fighter? Well all Pokémon are fighters, aren’t they?

Yes and no.

But in this case, a Blaziken is a dual type Fighting/Fire Pokemon. They were introduced in Gen 3.

They are basically Muay Thai Pokémon. Look at that form in the knee. Maybe get that right hand up to protect your chin, but I get the idea.

A Blaziken is the final form of Torchic and can Mega Evolve into Mega Blaziken.

The Blaziken makes an appearance in the arcade game Pokkén Tournament as a playable character.

They also appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Not as a playable character though. Which is a shame, cause they are pretty tough..

They’d be a great fit for one of the Best Anime Fighting Games. Maybe if we get a Pokémon fighter game in the future.

7. Articuno

Articuno

A Legendary Ice/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation 1 that is as cold hearted as you might expect.

If you lived alone in the mountains, you might be a little off-putting too!

These guys do not evolve. They don’t need to.

They are already legends. In fact, it’s known as one of the three Legendary birds of Kanto.

The Articuno appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

6. Aromatisse

Aromatisse - Best Bird Pokemon

They look sweet enough, sure. And I guess they actually are. In this case, looks are not that deceiving.

These Fairy type Pokémon from Gen 6 are primarily healers. And it’s signature move, Aromatic Mist, will protect allies.

They evolve from a Spritzee if you trade while holding a Sachet.

An Aromatisse is a fairy bird that is basically perfume sample attendant, and I am here for it.

They look cute. They sprits perfume in your face. What’s not to like?

5. Altaria

Altaria

You like cute Pokémon? How about a sweet cloud bird?

An Altaria is a cute dual-type Dragon/Flying Pokémon introduced in Gen 3.

They are not shy at all, and are known for their extrovert personality.

In fact, they just love to be alive. They’re known to catch a gust of air and soar through the sky while singing to themselves.

And they hug everybody with their cloud wings.

If they Mega Evolve into Mega Altaria… even more clouds and more cuteness.

They are a pretty awesome Pokémon, and we absolutely had to include it on the list of best bird Pokemon.

4. Corviknight

Corviknight - Best Bird Pokemon

You are not gonna tell me that a black metal bird ain’t one of the coolest Pokémon out there.

Admittedly, they aren’t the same kind of black metal that I’m into…

But these flying steel Pokémon from Gen 8 are the strongest birds in the Galar region.

They are the final form of a Rookidee (basic) and they can also evolve into a Gigantamax Corviknight who are the only Pokémon who can use the G-Max Move and G-Max Wind Rage.

Basically, these guys are badasses, and you don’t wanna mess with them. I like it.

3. Porygon Z

Porygon Z

Do alien birds count? Of course they do!

Introduced in Gen 4, a Porygon Z evolves from a Porygon2 when traded while holding a Dubious Disc. Sounds complicated. But that’s how you get one, okay!

As the final form of a Porygon, and is considered a virtual man-made Pokémon.

It was given special software to build up its power, which allowed it to travel through alien dimensions.

But the experiment failed, leading to a temperamental Pokémon with odd movement patterns.

So they are basically a glitchy alien computer bird? Rad!

2. Yveltal

Yveltal - Best Bird Pokemon

Just look at how cool these guys look. Part bird, part dragon, 100% gangster.

A Yveltal is a Legendary Dark/Flying Pokémon introduced in Gen 6. Like a lot of the awesome Pokémon on our list, they don’t evolve from anything else.

The Yveltal was one of the first Gen 6 Pokémon revealed and is the official mascot of Pokémon Y.

They have the ability to absorb life energy at the end of their life, cocooning itself.

And they use their signature ability Oblivion Wing to cause massive damage to all around them.

They really love their sleep, and hate it when they are interrupted. So I can relate.

For that reason, I am including these guys on our list of the best bird Pokemon.

1. Ho-Oh

Ho-Oh

As the official mascot for Pokémon Gold, the Ho-Oh was the first Generation 2 Pokémon ever revealed to the public.

They look like a mix between a phoenix and a peacock. Oh, and they’ve got a rainbow trail following them around!

They are both a Fire and Flying type of Pokémon.

Legend has it that anybody who is witness to a Ho-Oh in the wild is promised eternal happiness.

That sounds pretty awesome!

They are a one of a kind Pokémon that does not evolve from any other kind, nor will it ever evolve from it’s current state.

But like… they are so cool looking, why would you want them to change?

The Ho-Oh was introduced in Gen 2, and up until Gen 6, they were the only known Pokémon who could learn the Sacred Fire move.

The Ho-Oh is one of the most beautiful and most awesome Pokémon there is. So we had to give it the number one spot on our list of the best bird Pokemon.
