Just a few weeks ago news regarding an upcoming Logitech handheld was leaked, showing what looked like a cloud based handheld for the masses.

Today Logitech has confirmed that via officially revealing their all new Logitech G Cloud handheld targeting cloud based gamers who want to play their AAA games on the go.

According to Logitech: “Gaming continues to trend toward platform agnostic, current solutions that are either full gaming experiences that are restricted by stationary set-ups or lite versions of games that allow for more mobility”.

So they have revealed the “G CLOUD gaming handheld”, which offers the best of both gaming experience, portability and limitless power.

The Logitech G CLOUD Gaming Handheld plays games from Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce NOW, allowing gamers to download new remote play apps, video streaming, and more via the Google Play app.

Players can choose to show off their gameplay by streaming from their console with the Xbox app and extend their Steam experience with the Steam Link app.

The Logitech G CLOUD handheld puts games right in players’ hands by putting the processing power and extended library of games in the cloud. The handheld frees gamers to play in various locations around their homes while still having access to games they love through Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) and NVIDIA GeForce NOW.

This has allowed Logitech to compact all of this into a lightweight structure that can power your games for up to 12 hours on a single charge, something that the Steam Deck and the AYANEO Air struggles with.

My first impressions

Cloud gaming is coming whether you like it or not, and it was only a matter of time before it made it to handheld form.

The only issue is that it requires an always-on connection to the internet making it far less portable than some of its competitors, however that said, many handheld gamers use their handhelds most of the time in their own homes, so its unlikely this will be a major issue for those interested in this device.

It also removes the annoying wait to download your games library as its all in the cloud waiting for you, the same goes for updates, there’s no need to wait.

In terms of design it looks like a fairly modern device, and the lime green accents are dotted throughout the device nicely, giving it that Logitech aesthetic.

It features flared shoulder buttons, nice curved ergonomics at the back, a 3.5mm headphone jack and linear haptic responses making you feel even more immersed.

Overall I am looking forward to see what the future of cloud handheld gaming looks like, and if anyone can do it well, its Logitech, but is it enough to capture gamers attention when big boys like the Steam Deck and AYANEO are causing havoc on the market?
