We waited the entire Nintendo Direct for news on Breath of the Wild 2, and right at the very end, we received news about The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom.
That’s right folks, In May 2023, a whopping 6 years after Breath of the Wild dropped, Link is returning to us in a brand new adventure.
And it looks absolutely epic!
Here are our first impressions from what we’ve seen so far and predictions for the future, along with some pictures for anyone who hasn’t seen the video itself.
All The News On The Breath Of The Wild Sequel ‘Tears Of The Kingdom’
Hieroglyphic-style markings of Moblins and Bokoblins, a new owl god statue that could have reference to Kaepora Gaebora or his ancestors, and symbols that look very much like the sacred stones.
So much Zelda goodness happened in the first few seconds of the new Tears of the Kingdom trailer, and it’s only going to get better from here on out.
I know a lot of people were thinking that the new Zelda title would come with an upgrade to the Nintendo Switch, but the graphics on BOTW are still absolutely phenomenal, and the sequel looks even more impressive.
Opening the door to a new world that seems to span through the sky, there are definite throwbacks to Skyward Sword in this new Zelda. Still donning his Champion’s Tunic and with a pretty basic-looking Sheikh symbol shield, he dives down through the air, giving us a new look at what we can expect from Tears of the Kingdom.
The first thing I noticed is that there’s a lot more vertical space between areas. Hyrule in BOTW was vast with lots of running involved, whereas the sequel seems to occupy much more vertical space, with climbing and soaring up through the air playing big roles in the gameplay.
New Abiliites
We’ve already seen a clip of Link flying up through the air in a raindrop to fit through a small crack in the rock, which has since prompted me to wonder what new Sheikh Slate abilities we might find. The new trailer shows Link on a huge rock flying through the air on what looks like a Stasis trail too.
Could this be some sort of guidance system? I guess we’ve got till May 2023 to find out…
I know you’re disappointed by that date, but just check out the picture coming up and all that sadness will disappear.
Yes, Link is somehow flying on the back of a mechanical Eagle.
Is this a new Divine Beast, a little like the Master Cycle from the Champions Ballad DLC? It looks as though there’s a travel gate on the back of it, so perhaps this is to replace the Loftwnings from Skyloft?
I suppose with so much ground and air to cover, there’s no chances you can get around on a horse!
Just look at the map too… it’s literally taken me five minutes to stop staring at the scenery in this pic and write my last paragraph.
I’m unsure whether this is the old Hyrule from the previous game or new territory. But with new levels in the sky to discover and a whole heap of new abilities for us to explore, I’ll be playing this game 6 years after it releases and still be loving every second.
