Yes, if you’re looking for a console that has all the flesh-eating, undead-slaying, zombilicous action, then the PS2 has it all.
And it’s also made me remember just how many Resident Evil games there are too!
From abandoned prisons to eerie ships floating without a captain, the following zombie games are certainly not for the faint hearted.
Lock and load as you fight for survival, sweating as you move around every corner in fear of what could be lurking on the other side.
Jeez, I’ve got chills just thinking about it!
Warning – There’s a strong chance that you might be about to swear and throw things around your room in anger!

1. Cold Fear (2005)
The results are in, and Cold Fear is officially the best zombie game on PS2!
I can’t think of a better game to top this list. Set aboard a terrifying ship in the middle of Russian waters, players must try to figure out what has happened to all of their colleagues who have suddenly disappeared.
Will you end up falling foul to the nameless fear that has torn your world apart?
If you loved Silent Hill, then you’ll really enjoy this title. While it’s undoubtedly scary and a real pant-wetter, there are tons of finer details that players need to hone in on like finding letters bearing clues or picking up dropped items etc.
Take Tom Hanson into battle as you fire weapons of all kinds at brutal-looking zombies.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – this game looks like it should be out for a console much later than the PS2. Sony’s second console excelled itself here, and the game does an amazing job of drawing you in and invading your dreams.

2. Evil Dead: Regeneration (2005)
Evil Dead: Regeneration is a game that follows the the events of the movie Evil Dead 2. It carries on the story, taking the characters into new and equally disturbing situations.
Remember the suffering, the winner of our best PS2 horror games of all time? Well, Regeneration kind of has a similar feel to it, the third-person action seeing players picking up anything they can get their hands on and laying into zombies with unmitigated fury.
Unlike Resident Evil: Dead Aim, players can pull off a finishing move to take down zombies when they become weak enough. You can even soak up evil points and become an absolute bawler for a short amount of time.
See that smaller chap on the front cover? Half zombie, he helps you in your quest, a little like Gooigi and Clank in the Ratchet and Clank games.
Though I can’t remember Luigi or Ratchet kicking their sidekicks!
3. Resident Evil 4 (2005)
Ah, Resident Evil 4 and I go back a long way. I’ve talked about this game so much on so many different consoles, so it’s only fair that it takes the bronze medal in this list of the the best zombie games on PS2.
So, as we know, the T-Virus turns everyone in Racoon city into mindless Zombies. Moving away from the city and with a cool new over-shoulder camera angle that makes you feel closer to the action, this game is about as close as you can get to a zombie apocalypse (on the PS2, obviously).
This game was only ever meant to come onto the GameCube, which is weird as the GC is a real family-friendly console. Who would have thought that it would soon become one of the most-loved PS2 titles ever, selling over 10-million copies over all console.s
This game is less survival-horror, more all out ‘aarrrgggh kill everything quickly’ fest.
We’re talking pumping bullets into everything that moves as the infected villagers in this harrowing town work together to eat you alive. They can wield weapons and even run at you with blunt objects!
4. Resident Evil: Outbreak (2003)
Let’s throw another Resident Evil game into the mix, shall we. Resident Evil: Outbreak doesn’t always come up first when thinking about the classic Zombie-slaying franchise, but it’s a real fright-fest and one that boasts a cool difference.
So Racoon city residents must fight for their lives, literally. They’re battling against the T-Virus before it turns them into Zombies themselves.
If the amount of T inside you hits 100, then it’s game over!
There are 5 different levels in this game, each with a different scenario. Do your best to stay alive as you explore different buildings and settings, solving puzzles and figuring out problems while intensely stressed.
This return to Racoon City is a tour-de-force. It’s an R.E game to the very core and even came with online play, the first in the series to do so!
5. Bloodrayne (2002)
Bloodrayne is another classic title that many of you might have also played repeatedly on the GameCube.
Zombies, demons, and other nasty stuff aren’t supposed to chase down humanity. They’re not supposed to encroach on our world, and it’s the role of half-vampire Bloodrayne to stop them before they appear in our neighbourhoods.
She’s one of the most brutal characters I’ve ever seen, ripping gun-turrets right out of the ground and using them to beat back hordes of enemies. And when she’s done, she just throws away a weapon rather than reloading and finds a new one.
To be fair, if you don’t want to mess around finding a gun, you can just use the swords on your arms. Handy that, right?
If you like your games filled to the brim with blood, then this one will make you incredibly happy. I mean, as a half-vampire, Bloodrayne certainly looks like she’s enjoying it!
Your senses heighten as the game progresses, with the world slowing down around you as you hone into all the enemies in the area. It’s a fantastic game and once that’s incredibly well crafted!
6. Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am (2007)
How many of you used to watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force? This should was crazy, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am is full of all the same insanity that made the show so funny and exciting.
Players get to take Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad (which will make zero sense unless you’ve watched the show).
Oh, and this is a golf game with Zombies thrown into the mix.
The main premise is to play golf, then attack zombies, aliens, and other characters as you walk to where your ball has landed.
Hordes of enemies try to destroy you, and it’s your job to smack them into oblivion. It’s a golf sim, action zombie brawler, and cart racing game all rolled into one, based on one of the weirdest cartoons of all time.
What’s not to love?
7. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (2000)
You might have seen the next title in our list from our list of the best Dreamcast games of all time. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X remains one of the most exciting zombie games in existence, following on from Resident Evil 2 and 3.
More carnage, more zombies, same old epic gameplay.
This game didn’t actually debut on PlayStation consoles, but once it came to the fold, it was a rip-roaring success. We’re talking 3D environments for the very first time in an R.E game, all with new camera angles that helped to make the game much scarier than its predecessors.
Take control of Claire and Chris Redfield, working between a research facility and a remote prison.
Can you think of two more horrible settings to be fighting zombies in?
In a kind of ‘2-4-1’ deal, gamers get to play as both characters, swapping between the two areas, a little like the last two LOTR books.
The usual R.E themes apply; kill, run, kill, repeat.
Everything feels so familiar yet new and fresh, and the storyline is perfection. I’m not going to say anything more than that – get this game and work through it. It’s terrifyingly brilliant!
8. Curse: The Eye Of Isis (2003)
It’s not often you get horror games set in Britain, but Curse: The Eye Of Isis takes place in the British Museum and is filled with Egyptian frights and mystery.
Your mission is to stop a curse from spreading by getting the Eye of Isis back to the Pyramid where it originally came from.
The main catch – there are zombies and mummies trying to eat you at every verse end, and they all want to eat you alive.
The usual zombie-killing weapons are there in abundance – flame-throwers, crossbows, rifles and the likes. Players control either Victoria Sutton or Dr Darien Dane as they complete challenges, solve problems, and try to stay alive!
The storyline is what makes this game so special, with lots of cutscenes and dialogue to keep driving the story forward and keeping you on the edge of your seat.
With memorable NPCs and nail-biting action, this is one of the best Zombie games on PS2 that you won’t forget in a hurry.
9. Siren (2003)
Siren is one of the games in this list that some of you might not have heard of. This underrated game didn’t make much of an impact with PS2 owners back in the day, meaning it’s been a bit of a slow burn since its release in 2003.
I don’t know why though… a game where you play as zombie-like bad guys is always going to provide a terrifying experience, right?
Who wouldn’t want to play as a zombie? My mind is blown!
The main premise of Siren sees players projecting themselves into zombie creatures, an ability called ‘sight jacking’.
Honestly, we spend most of our lives playing as characters running away from zombies, that when it comes to playing as one the experience is super freaky.
Hearing the dithering Shibito howling and watching as they attack other humans is so frightening.
Siren has basically been forgotten in favour of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. It’s one of the scariest titles out there though, so do yourself a favour and give it a try.
10. Resident Evil: Dead Aim (2003)
First up on our list of the best Zombie games on PS2 is the incredible Resident Evil: Dead Aim, a cross between Time Crisis and the Resident Evil series we know and love.
Any game where you have to use a light gun wins big in my book every time, and this is no exception. Play as Bruce McGivern and Fongling as you move between levels pumping zombies full of lead.
Honestly, there isn’t anything else you really need to know about this game. The main appeal is that you get to actually fire a light gun at the TV to get into the heart of the action.
If only you could get your mates to dress up as zombies and eat crisps on the sofa next to you.
Use different guns from magnums to rifles, but try not to rush through ammo. You’ll go through loads as you furiously try to kill everything in sight, but ammo is hard to find, and the Zombies have a habit of clinging onto existence…
