Retro compilation Sonic Origins has just been released – and is proving incredibly popular. Let’s check out what cheat codes we’ve uncovered for each of the Sonic games included in our list of Sonic Origins cheat codes!

How do I enter cheat codes in Sonic Origins?

Before we go through which cheat codes can be entered in each game – and what they do – we’ll need to let you know how to do so – it’s not as straightforward as you may imagine!

Why do I need to access the Level Select Menu in each game?

The level select menus in Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles are where you’ll need to enter the cheat codes. There are no confirmed Sonic CD cheats that we’re aware of – but if you’ve found any, do let us know via social media!

What is Debug Mode?

You’ll notice that there’s a debug mode for each of the games – which is actually a really cool extra feature. This changes the onscreen view, removing the score and showing the player’s co-ordinates instead – but that’s not all. The best thing about debug mode, however, is being able to access a mode which allows you to place and move around different objects and enemies – there’s an awful lot of items to play around with here and it really does allow you to go crazy with spawning tons of different stuff!

So, onto the cheat codes themselves…

Sonic the Hedgehog Cheat Codes:

Sonic the Hedgehog

Level Select:

Firstly, the level select screen is where all other cheat codes are entered. So you’ll get to this via this method: on Sonic the Hedgehog’s title screen, press up, down, left, right and then any button.

Debug Mode:

Use the sound test option (found within the level select mode) to play tracks 01, 09, 09, 01, 00, 06, 02 and 03.

All Chaos Emeralds:

Want to have all of the Chaos Emeralds instantly? Again, use the sound test option – but this time play tracks 04, 01, 02 and 06.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Cheat Codes

Sonic 2

Level Select:

To unlock level select in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, enter Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right and then any button – all on the game’s title screen.

Debug Mode:

Just as in the first Sonic, use the sound test to play specific tracks and unlock debug mode. The tracks you’ll need to select are: 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02 and 04.

Super Sonic:

Want to instantly transform into Super Sonic? Use sound test to play tracks 04, 01, 02 and 06. If you collect 50 rings in a stage, then press a button when you’re in the air (on PlayStation this is triangle, on Switch it’s X and on Xbox it’s Y), you’ll transform!

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles

Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Level Select:

On the game’s title screen, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up. To access the sound test mode, press down, down.

Super Sonic:

Gaining access to Super Sonic works the same way as in Sonic 2. Use sound test to play tracks 04, 01, 02 and 06. If you collect 50 rings in a stage, then press a button when you’re in the air (on PlayStation this is triangle, on Switch it’s X and on Xbox it’s Y). That’s not all though…you can also go Hyper, as you’ll soon see!

Hyper Sonic:

This works the same way as the Super Sonic code – just enter it twice! So you’ll need to press 04, 01, 02, 06, 04, 01, 02, 06 on the sound test menu. Again, collect 50 rings in game, then press jump and you’ll transform into Hyper Sonic!

So that’s all of the cheats we know so far. Sonic Origins is a great look back at the history of Sega’s mascot – the titular hedgehog has been hugely popular ever since he first arrived in a burst of blinding speed on the Mega Drive/Genesis back in 1991 (take a look at our best Sonic games list here – which features most of the games in Sonic Origins and several more!).

With two live action Sonic movies and countless pieces of great merchandise for fans (check out our Sonic the Hedgehog 2 toys list and our best Sonic toys list for some great examples!), the blue blur has arguably never been more popular.
