I think you guys probably know by now that we are fans of the Analogue Pocket over here at Retro Dodo.

It took a spot on our list of the 11 Best Handheld Games Consoles Of 2022, and it is one of Brandon’s favorite consoles as of late.

If you own one, you are one of the lucky few who don’t have to worry about “do I want one, do I not want one?”.

You are likely already in love with the Analogue and are enjoying the incredible game play it can offer.

One of the assets that the Analogue Pocket provides is the incredible OS that they developed for the console, which provides all of the customization you can do to the performance of game play.

Analogue does plan on rolling up updates for their OS in the future, which will feature many more features for their users.

The latest of those updates coming in February of 2022. So if you had one of the very first Pockets shipped out, it’s possible your OS is actually out of date!

Let’s take a look at how you can update your Analogue Pocket to the latest OS:

Analogue Pocket Firmware Webpage

Step 1

The first thing you are going to need to do is go to the Analogue website and download the latest firmware package.

They don’t make it that easy to find. But the list of the Analogue OS firmware updates can be found here: analogue.co/support/pocket/firmware.

(At the time of writing this article, the Analogue OS is in version 1.0B)

Step 2

The next step is to load the firmware package to the root of a micro SD card.

Analogue also indicates that no other firmware files should be located on that SD card, cause they might conflict and your console may not know what to do about it.

So might just be best to have ONLY the new firmware on the SD card.

And that micro SD card should be formatted to FAT32 or ExFat.

Step 3

This one might be one of the most important steps that may be overlooked:

Make sure your console is charged! If it loses power in the middle of the update, that could cause some problems.

You wanna make sure your console has enough juice to last at least 15 minutes, if not just at 100% to play it safe.

Step 4

The next step is to turn your Analogue Pocket off. Not sleep mode. Power it down entirely.

Then put the micro SD card inside the slot on the side of the Pocket (it’s on the right side near the top).

Step 5

With the micro SD card in the console, turn the power back on.

Your Pocket should detect the micro SD card and the firmware update package on it.

You will see your Analogue Pocket begin to update, and you should see a progress bar on screen.

This process will take a little while. So it is best to just leave it alone and let it do its thing.

Do NOT turn the console off during the process!

Step 6

When your Pocket has finished the process, it will restart itself.

At this point, your update of the Analogue Pocket should be complete.

Step 7

If you would like to update your dock, all you have to do is place the newly updated Pocket inside and it will automatically update as well.

Conclusion

So that is about it, folks. Not difficult at all, huh?

As Analogue rolls out new updates, like the highly anticipated 1.1 iteration, we will start to see some very desirable features.

And of course, these updates will also address any bugs discovered for specific games, and Analogue will create patches for those specific issues.

So you are absolutely gonna want to keep your Analogue Pocket up to date for the best game play performance and available features.

So that is how to update your Analogue Pocket (the right way)!
