Prolific indie publisher Ratalaika Games – also responsible for the recently released action adventure Dandy & Randy DX (check out our Dandy & Randy DX review!) – have announced today that they’ll be taking care of publishing duties for the retro shoot ‘em up Remote Life, which will be released on May 27th 2022.
Incredibly, Remote Life is the work of a one man developer; it’s a technically impressive homage to the horizontally scrolling, 2D shoot ‘em ups that were hugely popular and prevalent in the mid-80s to the early 90s, though not without more modern elements. The single developer at Next Game Level has added his own unique touches – with beautiful, 3D-rendered backdrops, awesome biomechanical enemies and brilliantly designed bosses all forming part of this very promising-looking title.
There’s more than a hint of games such as R-Type within Remote Life’s DNA, but there are definitely enough unique elements to set it apart and make it much more than just a simple homage to the classic Irem 2D shooter. Escort missions and even open world stages are promised and shown in the game’s newly released teaser trailer, adding further exciting features to the 2D space shooting action.
As if that wasn’t enough, the snippet of soundtrack that can be heard in the teaser trailer is superb – a pulse-pounding electronic beat that’s sure to get the adrenalin flowing.
With just a few weeks to go until we get our hands on Remote Life, it won’t be long before we can find out for ourselves just how good it is to play. Remote Life will be released on all current console platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch – priced at $18.99 / €17.99 / £14.99.
