Checking out the R64 Nintendo 64 Music Cartridge
Here it is, folks, the R64 Nintendo 64 Music Cartridge. This brand new album featuring original music only works on your N64.
So far, Remute has released cartridge albums for the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive, the SNES PC Engine, and the Gameboy.
If this isn’t a reason to go back and repurchase all your favourite old consoles, then I don’t know what is!
So what’s this all about then? Is it a joke? Is it a collection of gaming tunes?
Well, it’s certainly not a joke, in fact it’s a pretty revolutionary idea and one that’s definitely attracting attention from music lovers and gamers alike!
Remute makes incredibly catchy electro music that take inspiration from bands such as Kraftwerk and Yello, the kind of stuff that you remember hearing back in forest raves in the 90s while drinking cans of Red Stripe.
Is This Really An N64 Cartridge?
Absolutely, there are no tricks or magic mirrors here as Remute is keen to point out.
On his official Bandcamp page, Remute states:
No tricks – this is not an embedded MP3-player, terribly compressed WAV-files on a microSD-card or other cheating: as with all previous Remute cartridge albums the sound on this cartridge gets generated and played back in realtime and it’s all happening within meager 8 Megabytes! With ‘R64’ the Nintendo 64 console is your very own synthesizer and happy to serve you every time you turn it on and press play! 93,75 MHz, baby!
Remute
Long story short, this isn’t a file of MP3s hidden in a game cart. It plays like all of the best N64 games and even comes with a visual experience on screen to make you feel like you’re heading on the weirdest trip of your life…
… and I don’t mean one that you need a car for…
Where Does The R64 Work?
The R64 Nintendo 64 Music Cartridge isn’t just something that German gamers can get hold of. This innovative release works on all consoles no matter of their region.
That’s right; whether you’re NTSC, PAL, or J-NTSC, this album will work flawlessly on your device.
