8BitDo Announce Mobile Clip For Attaching Micro/Zero 2 Gamepads To Your Smartphone

Thanks to emulators, playing retro games on your phones has never been easier. It’s been possible to download emulation apps from the Google Play store for a long while now, and with the arrival of apps like Delta and Retro Arch on iPhone last year, there’s never been a better time to play Banjo Kazooie on the train, Resident Evil on a plane, or Mario Kart while kicking back on the sofa.

If you’ve been following our socials and website, then you’ll see that we recently got hold of a prototype of the GAMEBABY phone case, a nifty little accessory that doubles up as a controller and makes your phone feel more like a vertical handheld. The buttons on the case correspond with the touchscreen controls on your phone, giving you a more authentic feel and more control while gaming. 8BitDo have taken things one step further, however, by actually producing a clip that attaches one of their micro controllers to the front of your phone.

The 8BitDo Mobile Clip is exactly what it sounds like, a little plastic clip that attaches to your phone in which you can hold your Micro or Zero 2 Gamepad for playing games on the go. The initial images look like it could be a little difficult to hold and might require you to have hands like the Hulk, but I’m going to reserve judgment as to how comfortable this will be when in use until I’ve actually had one in my hands. I’m also thinking that this would need to be used with a screen protector as no one really wants plastic pressing up against their actual phone screen. Again, most people already have screen protectors installed so that wouldn’t be much of an issue, but I would like to see if this clip comes with some little protective rubber pads on the back or perhaps some foam to cushion against your screen

For those of you who already have an 8BitDo micro gamepad, this could well be a cost-effective way to get more control over your mobile games. It certainly doesn’t look as sleek as the GAMEBABY or the MCON and won’t fit in your pocket as smoothly, but at $9.99 it’s definitely an alternative for people who don’t want to spend the earth on a brand new case or controller.
