The new 8BitDo 6-Button Controller For Xbox has been unveiled and it looks perfect for fans of the Mega Drive.
The 8BitDo M30 Wired Controller for Xbox, to give the controller its full name, will be compatible with Xbox Series X/S consoles as well as Xbox One and Windows 10 machines when it launches on the 22nd December 2023.
The new 8BitDo 6-Button Controller For Xbox is now available to pre-order from Amazon in the US for $34.99 plus shipping and taxes.
Releasing just before Christmas means that fighting game purists picking up the new controller will have a more literal meaning for ‘Boxing Day’ this year.
The new pad was officially unveiled on Twitter with an image of two combatants duking it out in a round of Mortal Kombat 1. The marketing for the 8BitDo 6-Button Controller For Xbox states that it’s ‘perfect for fighting games and other classics’ so including Liu Kang demonstrating his Dragon abilities is suitably fitting.
8BitDo promises a lag-free experience from the M30 which will further delight those of us that love beat ’em ups or platformers that demand lightning fast reflexes!
Inspired By The Classics
The new 8BitDo 6-Button Controller For Xbox clearly pays homage to the Mega Drive Control Pad of yesteryear while retaining all the buttons and functionality required of a modern pad.
The M30 features a smooth matte textured finish that extends across the 8-directional D-Pad.
8BitDo claim that the buttons are all perfectly calibrated and as this controller is officially licensed by Xbox, it also features the usual X, Y, A and B buttons with their respective blue, yellow, green and red colours.
On the software side of things, the 8BitDo 6-Button Controller For Xbox supports customisable button layouts with 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software X allowing for multiple profiles and button mapping across the board.

As I mentioned when we took a look at the Ultimate C Bluetooth Controller, we’re huge fans of the gamepads that 8BitDo produce.
The 8BitDo 6-Button Controller For Xbox’s plug and play functionality is one of the biggest selling points for me as I don’t want to faff around with installations and drivers when I want to play.
