In totally unexpected and wildly exciting news, a remake of the classic title Super Mario RPG has just been announced at the Nintendo Direct!
Of all of the classic SNES titles discussed to possibly be announced today, that was not high on the list of ones we expected.
Lots of talk about Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, F-Zero, Startfox. But Super Mario RPG?! Sign us up!
As one of the best Mario games of all time, we absolutely cannot wait to see what is coming to this new Mario remake. So let’s dive in!
Super Mario RPG
Super Mario RPG has been entirely rebuilt in full 3D for this amazing remake.
So new players will be able to enjoy this classic SNES title in a new and modern format.
This is great news, because Super Mario RPG is one of the absolute best Mario games to ever be released, and quite a unique one as well. But modern audiences probably have never even heard of it.
We included it on our list of the best SNES RPGs of all time, and soon we can probably include it on a best Switch games list.
The new graphics look incredible, especially those new cutscenes and character models.
And the new remake will also include that turn-based combat that was so unusual for the Mario universe.
Seeing it in modern form with an entirely rebuilt combat system is very exciting to long time fans of this cult classic title.
Super Mario RPG is known for having one of the most beautiful stories in the Mario universe, as well as offering something entirely different than any other Mario title.
And we are happy to see that of all of the SNES titles Nintendo could have remade, that this was on their shortlist.
Super Mario RPG is available to pre-order now, and will be released on November 17th, 2023.
