Limited Run Games has announced a new Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse Collector’s Edition for the Nintendo 3DS.
Retro gaming fans surely know all about Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and it took the number one spot on our list of the best Shantae games of all time for self-explanatory reasons.
The pixel art is absolutely stunning, the music is incredible, and the game play is perfect platforming action featuring our favorite hair-whipping belly dancer.
“Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse” is the third game in the Shantae franchise, which released in October of 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. It was later ported to a variety of consoles including the Playstation 4, Windows PC, and the Xbox One.
Limited Run Games previously released physical editions of Shantae titles for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. And now they are returning to the 3DS for what will be the final print for Shantae on this console.
So obviously, if you’re a Shantae or Nintendo 3DS fan, you’re gonna want to get your copy now or forever hold your peace.
Shantae And The Pirate’s Curse – Collector’s Edition
The full Collector’s Edition for Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse comes with a massive amount of bonus content. It includes the physical copy of the game for the Nintendo 3DS, a collector’s box, the game’s soundtrack on audio CD, an 18″ x 24″ poster, and several art cards.
But perhaps the most interesting addition is the replica Game Boy Color cartridge with stand. Sadly, however, it is just a replica.
I am very curious what the internal PCB actually looks like if this is a non-functional game cartridge.
Those familiar with rare Game Boy Color games would know that Shantae is certainly one of the most difficult to obtain. So it is no surprise that the collector’s edition would not include an actual playable Game Boy Color Shantae game.
This also seems like a missed opportunity to also announce a reprint of the original Game Boy title, but perhaps this leaves one more awesome physical edition for the future.
Either way, we’re incredibly pleased to see a physical release for Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse in 2024 on the original console it was created for.

Pre-orders for Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on the Nintendo 3DS will begin on January 26th at 10:00AM EST on the Limited Run Games website.
The Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse Collector’s Edition retails for a very surprising $64.99USD. Which is an absolute steal for everything you get in the collection.
If you’re only interested in the Nintendo 3DS game cartridge, that is also available for just $34.99USD. Again, that’s an absolute bargain for the last print of this classic.
