Retro Relics Of eBay (September 2025): Mario Kart 64 TCG, Virtual Boys & Potatoes?

Retro Relics Of eBay (September 2025): Mario Kart 64 TCG, Virtual Boys & Potatoes?

We're now on episode 003 of Retro Relics, a short and easily digestible article showcasing my favourite hidden gems on eBay this month.

I have a small addiction for scouring eBay's marketplace for weird and wacky retro-focused collectables, so if you're as weird as I am, there may be some things here that you may want to add to your collection.

Sometimes I find myself buying these weird things, for example, the first on this list is one that I couldn't help but purchase.

Limited Edition SEGA Genesis LEGO Set

This was a "gift with purchase" LEGO set that was only on sale for about two weeks and would only be given to those who spent over $150 on LEGO's website.

It's certainly not worth spending $150 to get, but I found many listings on eBay selling this set for $30 - $40, and for that price, I just had to buy one, seeing as it features my favourite retro games console as a child.

It's a small set there's no denying that, coming in at around 260 pieces, meaning it can be made in under two hours, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's one of the best retro-gaming themed LEGO sets, that we've had in a long while!

On the back, you will find a hidden easter egg which showcases one of the most infamous levels from the original Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Alongside that, it comes with 3 sets of different stickers, allowing you to choose between a SEGA Genesis, SEGA Mega Drive EU and SEGA Mega Drive JP colour-way. This made me incredibly happy as it was a surprise, so I could actually transform the "GENESIS" set into a "Mega Drive" set, as you can see from the image above.

It's a fun, underrated set for SEGA fans and makes for a good gift for your LEGO friends who are in the know about limited-time sets like this.

Sealed 1997 Mario Kart 64 Trading Cards

SUPER RARE SEALED Vintage 1997 Mario kart 64 Nintendo Power Trading Cards PACK | eBay
This listing is for 1 sealed Mario kart 64 trading cards pack sealed. Super hard to find!!!! As of now I believe it’s the only one on eBay!

If you're as fed up as I am with Pokémon TCG being ruined by scalpers, then you'll be glad to know there are literally thousands of other trading card games to collect that are retro enough to tickle that nostalgic spot of yours.

One trading card game that can't go unnoticed is the release of Mario Kart 64 collectable cards back in the 90s, and I managed to find a sealed booster pack ready for the taking.

Boxed Nintendo Virtual Boy

Nintendo Virtual Boy 3D Display Game System Console w/game software Open Box | eBay
It is new and unused, but only opened.

With Virtual Boy games coming to Nintendo Switch Online soon, there's no better time to experience the real thing. Virtual Boy consoles are rare, very few were made and shipped, let alone finding ones still boxed and in good condition.

It's not a console you will enjoy using for sure, but a piece like this is one that any gaming collector would appreciate. It's a moment in gaming history that flopped, but it's coming back in fashion.

I've always wanted to buy a boxed Virtual Boy, so I thought I'd share my want in this month's episode because it's a cool console, and this listing is in great condition!

Boxed Spud's Adventure for GAME BOY

One of the rarest GAME BOY games has been found boxed, in good condition and is up for sale on eBay for $1,400.

This is something that rarely comes up for sale. It's the first time I've seen a boxed version of Spud's Adventure since founding Retro Dodo in 2019. It looks like the real deal (although you'll have to verify that yourself, of course), and it's being sold by a seller with a good history and ratings.

This could be one of the only times this boxed version becomes available for a very long time, even the cartridge alone goes for $500 and the manual $200!

Pokémon Advance on SEGA Pico

SEGA PICO Pokemon Advanced Generation Waiwai lively Battle! with Box from JAPAN | eBay UK
Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for SEGA PICO Pokemon Advanced Generation Waiwai lively Battle! with Box from JAPAN at the best online prices at eBay UK! Free delivery for many products!

The time when SEGA and Nintendo would collaborate, and one rare game that features the case, the box and the controller is Pokémon Advance.

Yeah, I never heard of it either, but these things are growing ever rarer as the days go on, especially considering it's one of the only times where SEGA and Nintendo worked together on hardware.

It's a Japanese exclusive and is technically a cartridge which can be used with the SEGA Pico. The artwork, the designs, and the awkward controller are all forms of unique art and will certainly make any gaming collection even more unique.

Halo 2600

Atari Halo 2600 Complete In Box Rare Discontinued | eBay UK
Atari Halo 2600 Complete In Box - Rare & Discontinued - Atari Age Has been kept in a box protector since new. Manual and cartridge are mint condition. Box is mainly mint condition apart from slight wear on the top flap where I had opened it.

You may be thinking? Surely this is impossible? But I am here to tell you that this is, in fact, a legitimate video game, a demake for the ATARI 2600 made by Ed Fries and published by AtariAge.

Ed Fries was the former vice president at Microsoft, and was heavily involved in Bungie's acquisition back in the day and built Halo 2600 out of pure curiosity.

It's one of those games that very few people know about, and for any collector like myself, it's a great reason to add it to my collection. This is a very well-kept boxed version, in immaculate condition, ready for the taking.

The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on 3DS Sealed

The Nintendo DS line will be looked at as one of the greatest handhelds of all time, not only because of its crazy sales but also because of the impressive games that were released on the device.

One of the greatest, in my opinion, is The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, a true RPG that took us on an adventure that we couldn't forget, and I believe all gaming collectors should have at least one in their collection.

Sealed 3DS games are on the rise after speaking with many UK retro game stores on our The Retroad Show video show. I myself have purchased a couple of sealed versions to keep, but one that I still want is this one.

The Zelda series is going nowhere, and sealed collectors are on the rise. I think it could be a worthy snag that compounds over time if you're a Zelda collector!

It also has the red Nintendo strip, which means it's the older and slightly rarer variant.
