We’ve checked out Rayman: The Board Game a few times here at Retro Dodo Towers, and as huge fans of the limbless platforming hero, we couldn’t be more excited to have him and his friends making their way to our tabletops.
The crowdfunding campaign for the tabletop adventure launched on the 17th of September, and easily jumped past its funding target, with the current level of pledges sitting at almost 400% of the original goal! That’s right, nearly four times as the target, with 19 days left on the campaign; despite having a fairly lofty target of CA$50,000 (that’s fifty thousand Canadian dollars, to the uninitiated!), after just two days the campaign has raised just over CA$194,000, from more than 1,000 individual backers.
It’s not difficult to see why Rayman: The Board Game has caught the attention of fans; the long-running UbiSoft video game series has been lovingly translated into board game form, with stunning miniatures and a fun, racing game-style experience that can even be enjoyed by just a single player, though it does support up to six players simultaneously with an expansion (which is also available as part of the Kickstarter campaign).
Add ons to the game include wooden token upgrades and a set of ‘skins’, which are in fact alternate versions of the core game’s miniatures, along with larger scale versions of the game’s beautiful figures. Some of these are marked as Kickstarter exclusive; if you want to complete your collection of Rayman: The Board Game figures, so far the only way to do so will be to jump on board the Kickstarter campaign.
That’s not all though, because there are also new figures being added as surprise stretch goals; for each new backer, a Lum is collected, and when enough Lums are gathered, new figures, bosses, tokens and upgrades are being added for backers. Flyos Games, the developers and publishers behind Rayman: The Board Game, have even implemented a ‘Lucky Ticket’ system, whereby new additions, likely Kickstarter exclusive, will be revealed every few days as well.
At the time of writing, another new Rayman figure, which features Rayman riding a Mosquito, has been added, and all Lucky Ticket reveals will be included for backers as long as they pledge at the basic ‘Essential’ level for the game, which includes the base game and all Lucky Ticket reveals.
If you’re a Rayman fan, but you’re still on the fence about whether or not the board game adaptation will be your cup of tea, you can even try the game out now on your PC, using the links on the game’s Kickstarter page, which you can find by following this link.
Are you as excited for Rayman: The Board Game as we are? With estimated delivery of the finished project being mid-2025 (with the promise that backers of the Kickstarter campaign will have their game a month before it hits retail), there’s a while to wait yet, but it’s definitely an exciting project for fans of Rayman, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the final product!
