Did you know that there are rare PS4 games out there? Yeah, me either. Till I wrote this article!
When we talk about rare games, we are typically going to be talking about games made 30+ years ago that have slowly become more difficult to obtain.
We recently wrote about 10 Rare ATARI Games, so we know a thing or two about super old games being rare.
But not all rarities are gonna be oldies.
Due to factors like intentional limited edition runs or unintentional small quantity orders from independent game developers…
There are even games from the modern era that are extremely rare and extremely valuable.
So which ten PS4 titles are the most rare & how much are they worth? Let’s find out together…

10. Tokyo 42 (2017)
Strictly Limited Games is a publisher who focuses on limited edition game releases.
And their very first release in the niche was Tokyo 42, a pretty awesome game that has a unique vibe.
Mixing retro pixel art with minimal 3d game play and a pretty awesome soundtrack… all resulting in a beautiful game.
If you were lucky enough to snag one of the 2600 copies of the limited edition physical release, you might be sitting on about $75 to $100 worth of game.
Strictly Limited Games has released quite a few great games since the 2017 release of Gryphon Knight Epic, including The First Tree, 7th Sector, and Rising Hell… all pretty awesome indie releases to check out.
9. Strafe (2017)
Strafe was a Kickstarter crowdsourced game developed by Pixel Titans and released in limited run by Special Reserve Games.
Strafe was Special Reserve Games first release in the limited edition niche.
One of the 2000 copies sold could pull in anywhere from $30 to $150.
Capitalizing on the “limited edition” concept, Special Reserve Games also released 1000 copies of Strafe with a different cover.
So really.. how limited are these things? Is that cheating? And who makes the rules around here?
8. The Coma: Recut Limited Edition (2018)
Play-Asia is a game publisher who helps bring asian titles to the west.
So when Korean horror title The Coma: Recut was ready to ship, 2000 copies were produced and sold.
A copy of this incredible title could make you $150-250 if you were okay parting with it.
But don’t. Cause it’s rad.
One of my personal favorite rare PS4 games on this list.
Play-Asia also has the Eastward Collector’s Edition package, so get on that!
7. Rez Infinite (2016)
Rez Infinite was a Playstation VR special edition release of the classic game from 2002.
The original classic game was quite interesting. It was a sort of 3d rhythm shooter thing that had a unique minimal futuristic aesthetic.
I had trouble finding the right combination of words to use to describe the game. The game is that unique. You really have to see it to understand it.
We even included the original release on our list of the 10 Most Underrated PS2 Games.
But people love the game, and so when the limited VR version was released on iam8bit, they were snatched up quick!
Iam8bit is yet another limited edition video game publisher… are you starting to see a trend here?
The actual number of copies produced and sold has not been revealed, so people can only speculate.
A copy could cost you anywhere from $50 to $150 on ebay if you wanted to get your hands on one.
And really, we can’t blame you. This rare PS4 game is actually a pretty awesome one to have in your collection, especially if you own the Playstation VR set to play it on!
6. Saturday Morning RPG (2016)
When you hear the name Limited Run Games, you might have an idea of what you are in for.
They are a publisher who specializes in “bespoke Collector’s Editions” of indie titles.
So when they picked up Saturday Morning RPG, about 2000 copies were produced.
They are all sold out now, so a copy of Saturday Morning RPG could probably pull in between $50 and $200 if you wanted to sell it.
Limited Run Games has a few awesome editions for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, so you should absolutely check them out if you wanna snag your copy before they become a rarity as well!
5. Retro City Rampage DX (2014)
Many in the gaming community credit publisher Vblank Entertainment for starting the limited edition craze that resulted in a lot of the rare games on this list.
Intentionally limiting production on a title could boost its popularity, lead to some good press, and of course add literal and figurative value to both the game, the developer, and the publisher.
It’s like self producing your street cred. Or the corporate version of playing hard to get.
So in 2014, Vblank produced 2000 copies of Retro City Rampage DX.
The DX edition of RCR was a re-release of the fan-favorite game originally released in 2012 for PS3, PS Vita, and PC.
A copy of this limited edition run could pull in around $150-$350 nowadays.
4. Gryphon Knight Epic (2017)
Strictly Limited Games, who was mentioned earlier in this list, was fairly new to video game development back in 2017.
So when they released the physical edition of Gryphon Knight Epic, they only produced 999 copies.
Perhaps due to available funds, perhaps due to fear they wouldn’t sell them.
Well… lucky for them, they did sell. All of em.
So if you happen to have one of those 999 copies, it could pull in anywhere from $400-500 for an unopened copy.
At the end of 2020, Strictly Limited Games also released a Definitive Edition, this time producing 3000 physical copies, perhaps realizing their mistake on the first time around.
3. Tamashii (2020)
Tamashii is another one of these limited edition games with an undisclosed number of units that were produced or sold.
All helping contribute to its enigmatic release on Halloween 2020.
The game itself is quite strange, so pretty much everything surrounding this title just gives some icky feelings.
And you know what, I kinda like that kind of stuff. And so do a lot of other game collectors.
So if you were one of the lucky mofos who picked up this crazy title.. they have been known to be listed on ebay for $700-$2000.
They are allegedly sold out, but some sites have listed copies for $1000-$2000.
Everything about this game and its physical release is kinda creepy, and we hope we don’t curse this list of the most rare ps4 games by including it.
2. Poop Slinger (2019)
The story of Poop Slinger is quite funny, actually. I mean, apart from the name…
The game was actually launched for sale on April 1st, 2019 by limitedraregames… so most people assumed that it was entirely a joke.
The site itself was/is quite obscure and was rumored to be run by one person living in Russia, so didn’t seem too legit.
Of course, the game was intended to be a joke when released digitally in 2018.
And surely, the sale date was also chosen with intent.
But because so few people actually believed the listing of the physical release, only 84 of the 1000 copies were sold!
To everyones surprise, the site was legit, the sales were legit, and the 84 orders were honored!
Due to the rarity of this game, copies have been known to sell for $2000 to $6000.
One unopened copy was listed on eBay for about $14,000!
Surely Poop Slinger is the most rare PS4 game and currently holds the highest collectible value.
1. P.T. (2014)
Okay, so we are about to talk about one of the most interesting moments in video game history.
P.T. (short for “playable teaser”) was a game demo made available on the Playstation Network by an unknown developer 7780s Studio in August 2014.
At the time, there was so much mystery about what exactly we were downloading onto our systems. But it looked interesting enough.. and it was free, so why not give it a try?
For those of us who downloaded it and played it, it didn’t take long for P.T. to crawl inside our brains and leave its mark forever.
What players were exposed to was one of the most cryptic, perplexing, immersive, and haunting gaming experiences they could possibly ever have.
Through hours of terrifying experimentation, we eventually learned 1. How to actually progress in the demo, and 2. That this demo was actually a teaser for a new Silent Hill game being developed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro.
If you are unfamiliar with the strange legend, take that all in for a minute.
Yes, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima was working in collaboration with legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro on a reboot of the classic game franchise Silent Hill.
And they created this strange “demo” under the guise of a fake studio, daring unknowing gamers to figure this puzzle out.
Honestly, I could write about this whole thing for another 3 hours. But let’s try to do the quick version:
One of the most unique video game demos ever created… Considered one of the best video game experiences of all time (even though it was only a demo!).
The Silent Hill reboot eventually cancelled due to conflicts between Konami and Hideo Kojima. P.T. Was eventually removed from the Playstation Network, and you would never be able to download it again.
The only remaining digital copies of the game were those still on the hard drives of the PS4 owners who had downloaded it. P.T. was reportedly downloaded over one million times.
So, where does that leave us?
Well… you have one of the most beloved (and feared) video game experiences of all time… and the only way to experience it ever again is if you have it downloaded to your PS4.
This created a pretty unique situation… any Playstation 4 with P.T. installed now has significant value to gamers.
Your actual Playstation 4 becomes one of the most limited physical copies of one of the most desirable game experiences.
If you were to sell your PS4 with an installed copy of P.T. on the hard drive… you could potentially rack in $350-1200.
So P.T., a gaming experience with some of the most complex history, becomes one of the most rare PS4 games of all time.
