After ModRetro revealed official images of their console, alongside the first images of their controllers on Black Friday, founder Palmer Luckey came to X to show off a new colourway and a new hidden feature.

This new colourway is called "AMD Red", which was shown off in collaboration with AMD.

"Here is AMD Red, the shell we developed as part of our collaboration with @AMDGaming to revolutionise retro console and computer simulation using new FPGA-based emulation techniques", states Luckey.

But in the previous tweet, he stated something that we've all wanted to hear.

"Three translucent colors are in manufacturing right now, more than a dozen on the way - we are releasing upcoming colours as easily swappable low-cost body kits!"

This is great news for those of you wanting to spice up your colourways down the line. Many of us were upset with Analogue releasing new "limited edition" colourways that sold out in minutes. Well, it looks like ModRetro is combating that by selling individual shells for far cheaper.

And, there are already a dozen in the pipeline, which is great to hear. I am hoping for a transparent Orange version, personally! I asked Palmer if the controllers will also come with replaceable shells, and to my excitement, he confirmed that they will be replaceable "in less than a minute if you are speedy".

The kit will likely come with a main console shell, replaceable buttons and a controller shell too. Unless they decide to sell them individually, which I don't think will be a problem.

This will allow customers to change simply the buttons if they require it, instead of a whole kit, but who knows!

There's no official date or pricing regarding the kits, but for now, it's a great idea that I think many of us will enjoy tinkering with. What colour would you like to see?
