It’s not often an unreleased game becomes readily available to purchase on eBay. They are typically sold across niche hobby forums, or within exclusive groups of video game resellers. However, LEGO Battles: Castles on Nintendo DS was listed on eBay and was swiftly purchased by a keen eye just a couple of days after going live.
The game was listed for $950 as a Buy It Now price, which makes us believe the seller knew exactly what it was and had a rough estimate of what it could sell for. It sold on the 19th December to a unknown buyer, a buyer that many hope will upload the game files to the web to be preserved as it’s one of the only known physical versions of the game ever made.
The game was called Lego Battles: Castles, likely an early development of Lego Battles that was developed by Hellbent Games in 2009. Nobody really knows how much of this prototype game is completed, how many minutes or hours can actually be played before finding the end of the development file.
Looking closer at some of the images that the seller has listed it shows that only early parts of the game has been created, or it’s just how far they have got through on the save file. You can see that the cartridge is also a development cartridge, and if you dive deeper into the sellers eBay account you will notice that they have a wide selection of development kits and cartridges for sale from the DS era.
It’s a very interesting product that has certainly caught the attention of many retro gaming and LEGO fans, and I too hope we will see the files made widely available for us to view, or a simple video showcasing some of the unique gameplay in the future.
As there becomes more demand for retro gaming collectibles it’s likely we’ll see more products like this being sold on eBay, so keep your eyes peeled and set those alerts!
