As fun as it is to solve all the side quests in Octopath Traveler II, we eventually have to tackle some of the main stories too, one of which is to fight Mother. So, if you want to gain Throné’s freedom, you’ll need to find out how to beat Mother in Octopath Traveler II!
Just a small disclaimer: you can choose to face Father first instead, however, Mother is the easier of the two to defeat.
Mother isn’t the hardest boss you’ll face, however, a couple of her moves can restrict your characters. Not ignoring the fact she uses a lackey to protect her as well.
If you want to brush up on your fighting knowledge before facing Mother, you should definitely read my 10 best Octopath Traveler II beginner tips. After that, there’s nothing left to do but get that first key to your collar.
How To Beat Mother In Octopath Traveler II
To defeat Mother, take out her Aide first. Then when she’s alone, attack with daggers, bows, ice, and light magic to lower her 42,000 HP.
The key to success is to beat the Aide before taking on Mother.
By all means, use Throné’s Shackle Foe or Corrosive Armour on Mother to ensure her attacks don’t hurt you while you whittle down her lackey, but don’t make her your primary target.
To make fast work of the Aide, exploit his weaknesses. These consist of:
- Staves
- Swords
- Fire
- Lightning
He also has 21,000 HP, meaning he will go down a lot quicker than Mother. Still, be careful of his charged attacks when Mother uses Lashings of Love on him – this will boost his attack for several turns.
As for Mother, her attacks aren’t too damaging, apart from Whip of Terror that locks your Boost option. To nullify the effects of this move, make sure to use a Herb of Valor.
I recommend ensuring you have a lot of healing items available, and that you use a team of Throné (obviously), Temenos, Osvald, and either Castti or Hikari.
This is because Throné’s HP Thief will claw back your health, Temenos can Heal, Osvald can command Ice, and Hikari has a wide selection of Learned Skills.
To enhance these skills further, pair Osvald with the Merchant Job, and Hikari with Apothecary – this will allow Osvald to Rest (aka self heal), and Hikari to Revive fallen team members. If you haven’t found all Secondary Job locations in Octopath Traveler II yet, now is the time to do so.
The Mother Of All Battles
Once Mother is beaten, you’ll finally have one key to Throné’s collar; now all that’s left is to get the second key from Father. Compared to Mother, he’s a lot tougher to defeat, so make sure to level up as much as you can.
A good way to do this is to figure out how to get your own ship in Octopath Traveler II, and defeat the high level enemies of the sea. However you choose to prepare for the arduous battle ahead, I wish you luck out there!
