GoRetroid's Dual Screen "Add-On" Now Available To Purchase

GoRetroid's Dual Screen "Add-On" Now Available To Purchase

GoRetroid's recent announcement revealed their new dual screen add-on that brings a clamp-able 5.5" AMOLED display that attaches to a few of their previous devices, alongside other third party devices.

This tease has now evolved into an official release with pre-orders now live, at a price of $69 available on their website today, making it a great affordable accessory for those that wants to elevate their Pocket 5, Pocket Mini and Pocket 4+ handhelds.

GoRetrod Dual Screen Add On Specs

  • 5.5" AMOLED touch-screen (107% sRGB coverage | 100,000:1 contrast ratio | 500 nits peak brightness)
  • 120/150/180 degree click-stop hinge
  • Support pass-through charge
  • Dedicate buttons for brightness setting
  • Official devices support: RP4Pro/RP Mini/RP MiniV2/RP5
  • Third-party devices support: 6"~7" screen with DisplayPort over USB-C (Maximum device height support : 115mm, NOT compatible with Steamdeck)

From the photos shared you can see that (although not perfectly), it fits their older devices. The RP4 Pro and RP Mini fitting will likely look and feel awkward when transporting but the RP5 seems to have a more natural fit seeing as display sizes are near identical.

The clamp attaches like any traditional phone clamp, and the display (that comes in three colour variants: black, GC and translucent white) shuts and opens at three different points, 120, 150 and 180 degrees with a USB-C cable to work with "third party devices".

The recommendation for third-party devices is that it should have a 6" - 7" screen with a USB-C Display Port to work efficiently, and fit correctly.

My thoughts, from someone who owns all of their devices

I think GoRetroid has seen the need to give the community what they want, in a way that they can as of now.

We want a dual screen handheld, and we all know that GoRetroid can do it at the level of standard we all want. Their Pocket Flip 2 is remarkable, but its a tease for the "real deal" which I believe is coming, eventually.

This gives users the opportunity to make it happen with their older devices in a way which is accessible to many.

Do I think it looks pretty? No. Do I want one? No. But it's a step in the right direction, and I know many Retroid Pocket 5 fans will be happy, but a lot of us are still waiting.

It's also GoRetroid's attempt at building more accessories for their product line, which as a business model, is a great idea seeing as we all have more handhelds than we know what to do with, so enhancing the ones we currently have could be a way of saving money in the long-run.
