One of my most used retro handhelds of 2025 is the GKD Pixel 2, a perfectly sized mini handheld capable of emulating games up to PlayStation 1 in a beautiful metal shell.

The Pixel 2 comes with some minor upgrades compared to the original and is ever so slightly thicker, and now, a few months after its release, GKD reveals a new colourway that is shipping right away from KeepRetro.

This is the kind of news we like to see on a Friday, especially because of the fact that it's available and ready to ship, which I'll admit is unusual for these Chinese handheld companies. It would typically be in a pre-order phase for many weeks before shipping, but not this time!

The new Pink shell gives the GKD Pixel 2 a refreshingly bright overhaul, with bright white buttons to match, alongside some tiny detailing around the device, featuring what could be paw prints, bubbles, the action button shapes loved by PlayStation fans and a kitty-themed border around the display.

Admittedly, this isn't for everyone, but I know darn well this is one that I may have to snag for my girlfriend this Christmas!

The GKD Pixel 2 is a remarkable little device that doesn't want to power every console on the block; it simply wants to be the most well-designed mini handheld on the market, matching build quality with portability, and it's done that incredibly well.
