GameMT have released some funky handhelds in the past, such as the E3 Vigor and one with a power dial that switches performance modes called the EX5; none of them ever intrigued me, in all honesty.

But their latest release, the EX8, which has been under development for several months, is now available to purchase, making its way firstly to a small retailer called Royibeila (we've never used them before, so tread carefully).

This listing shows specifications, pricing and more, which shows that the EX8 wants to play a more serious part in the Chinese handheld wars.

The device is going for a modern look, featuring the classic glass-front panel with LED capacitive joysticks and a 4.8" 1080 display, which certainly makes it look sleek, although in my opinion, overused in the industry at this moment in time.

That said, I do like the blocky look, it goes against the grain slightly and reminds me of a GAME BOY Advance in some ways. There's also the fact that it has a white and purple colourway that is very on-brand with Retro Dodo's colours, me likey.

Specifications

  • 4.8" Full-HD 3:2 Display (1620 x 1080) 60Hz
  • MediaTek Helio G99 CPU
  • Mali-G57 MC2 GPU
  • 6GB RAM
  • 5000MAH Battery
  • Wifi + Bluetooth

In terms of specs, we've seen this before, and it'll likely get you PS1, Gamecube and Dreamcast emulation out of the CPU/RAM combination, which will be pretty nice on a 3:2 display, and that's if you don't already have a handheld that can emulate those systems.

It's out now and available to purchase for around $139.99; other retailers will likely start selling it too, and may alter the price slightly. The only AliExpress listing i see is not official and is $200+, which I believe i just a third party inflating the price!
