Though our dreams of building a doughnut review website are over because of this game, it's clear that this indie-developed game has pleased a lot of retro gamers since its release on modern hardware in 2022.
Originally released on PC and later released on consoles, including Evercade, iiRcade, ATARI VCS, Nintendo Switch, and more, it's a light-hearted arcade game that sees you play as Baker Billy Burns, who has to run, jump, and climb to outwit Donut Dodo and his bunch of clueless minions. Your goal is to collect all doughnuts in each level, in the best possible time.
It was developed by Pixel Games, an independent game studio in Luxembourg, founded by Sebastian Kostka, who has a passion for creating classic arcade games on modern hardware.
With the success of previous ports, Sebastian is now ready to bring Donut Dodo to Nintendo 64, for us all to enjoy in phyiscal form. It will be launching on Kickstarter "soon", likely with digital and phyiscal perks to back.
They have shown off some minor cartridge art, alongside box art and the inclusion of a manual, which will certainly keep all of us collectors happy, having this on display.
Your save states, high scores, settings and achievements date in the Nintendo 64 version will save directly to EEPROM on the battery-free cartridge itself, keeping a slot free for using a Rumble Pak, which Donut Dodo does support.
You can register your interest on their Kickstarter page which will notify you when it officially launches.
