Disney Pixel RPG Gameplay Revealed + Free Avatar Gifts On The Horizon

Gameplay from a battle in Disney Pixel RPG

Upcoming mobile title, Disney Pixel RPG, is shaping up to be an accessible, nostalgic mash-up of beloved Disney characters and settings, with a retro-style aesthetic and gameplay experience. The story sees numerous, disparate game worlds inhabited by Disney characters being invaded by strange programs, and starting to break down. Players take on the role of a player of the different Disney games, and team up with characters on a quest to restore order.

Having written extensively for Retro Dodo’s sister site, Card Gamer, it seems to me that the approach taken by Disney Pixel RPG isn’t too different from the tabletop trading card game, Disney Lorcana, which also brings together hundreds of different characters from a variety of Disney stories, with a setting that brings them all into the same tale at once.

In Disney Pixel RPG, you’ll take on the invading programs in turn-based battles, as well as customise your personal avatar with Disney-themed items, and even send pixel-art Disney characters on expeditions to retrieve materials for you while you’re away.

It all looks very nicely designed and very promising indeed; it’s shaping up to be a Disney fan’s dream game. Check out this clip of the gameplay below!

How Many Users Have Registered For Disney Pixel RPG So Far?

Disney Pixel RPG has clearly captured the attention of plenty of fans, as it’s just reached a huge milestone, with more than 200,000 users having pre-registered to play the game! As a thank you for the massive amount of interest in Disney Pixel RPG, publishers GungHo Online Entertainment, Inc. have announced that certain items, including ones with a Mickey Mouse motif, will be given away for free.

When Will Disney Pixel RPG Be Available?

Though it’s possible that the release date will change, Disney Pixel RPG is due to launch in September 2024 on iOS and Android devices. Though it’ll be free to play, in-app purchases will be available, though of course, it’s too early yet to see if these will be purely cosmetic or if they’ll have any effect on the turn-based, RPG-style gameplay itself.
