ATARI Reveals New 7800+ Console Remake

ATARI 7800+

ATARI has revived yet another console, this time it’s the ATARI 7800 that was released back in 1986 which they are now calling the 7800+, similar to what they did with the ATARI 2600+ which we reviewed.

This console is slightly smaller than the original, compacted down into something that fits into a normal, modern entertainment setup and features a connection to modern TV’s using HDMI meaning you don’t have to faff around with all of the converters.

It will also support both ATARI 2600 games and ATARI 7800 games too, so if you have the cartridges from your old collection, you will be happy to know you can blow off the dust and play them like the good old days, using modern tech.

Each console will come with a new Wireless CX78+ wireless gamepad which is a recreation of the old classic controller that ATARI released in Europe in the 90’s. It’s certainly a unique gamepad, but nonetheless nostalgic and works well with the console.

Included is a cartridge of Bentley Bear’s newest 7800 adventure, Crystal Quest, Atari’s description of this game is: “Bentley Bear’s nemesis, Berthilda the Witch, has exacted her revenge and stolen the Five Crystals of Life, plunging the world into chaos! You need to brave the various realms in order to recover each of the crystals and complete your Quest! Along the way, you’ll meet enemies new and old in this brand-new game”.

The console is immediately available to pre-order on their website and the 7800+ will cost £99.99/$129.99/€119.99. They are also selling a Mega Bundle that comes with a bunch of extra controllers should you want to play with your pals.

This reveal coincides with the recent announcement of new physical games for the 2600 and 7800, opening up even more unique experiences for those that have the old and new hardware.

The ATARI 7800+ will ship and deliver to customers in “Winter 2024”, just in time for Christmas, hopefully!
