It was only a matter of time before ANBERNIC revealed a dual-screen handheld. I've said in many of our podcast episodes that 2026 is the year of dual-screen devices, and if anything, I am a little late, considering we have just reviewed the AYANEO Pocket DS, and the AYN Thor is shipping soon.

Originally spotted by RetroHandhelds.gg, the device will be called the ANBERNIC RG DS and will look nearly identical to the Nintendo DSi, focusing on a sleek, pocketable clamshell design with a high-gloss top shell and obviously... two screens.

A promotional video shows a better look at the device. The two screens look identical, and it will likely be a similar size to the DSi, too.

It rocks dual analogue sticks (without LEDs by the looks of it), two USB-C ports, four shoulder buttons, small action buttons and two top speakers around the screen.

ANBERNIC haven't gone over the top here, they've kept close to the DSi design which I think many will appreciate if they can price this competitively. It doesn't need to be backed with power, just enough to do 3DS emulation well.

As of now, no price, specs or release date is announced, but if i had to guess ANBERNIC will want to get this out the door before Christmas to take advantage of the buying period.

GameBoy Juntaro on X also found a leaked image which shares the translated text:

With this device, dedicated to those like me who have spent half their life chasing that 1:1 lookalike:

  • Symmetrical dual screens (top & bottom)
  • High-quality hinge
  • Triple-digit price
  • For lovers of retro dual-screen handhelds

The true graduation project for retro dual-screen fans

I believe this will be a popular device if they can release it before Christmas and price it under $150. The AYANEO Pocket DS and AYN Thor are very overkill for those wanting DS emulation, and the prices match that.

GoRetroid are undoubtedly working on something to target the exact same audience as ANBERNIC, so if ANBERNIC can act quickly, it will scoop up a lot of sales for sure.

Let's just hope it's Android-based (which I believe it will be and leaked images show Android as an OS) and that ANBERNIC work on updating their launcher to not look like something out of the 2010s.
