Nintendo No Longer Able To Repair ‘New Nintendo 3DS’ Consoles, Effective Immediately

New Nintendo 3DS Console

It’s the end of an era, as Nintendo’s Japanese customer service centre has announced that they are no longer able to repair 3DS consoles. In a post on X, Nintendo has advised 3DS owners that “As we have run out of parts necessary for repairs, we have stopped accepting repairs for the New Nintendo 3DS system [KTR-001] as of August 28, 2024.”

This information was translated into English from the post above, which is part of a thread that began by advising that the inventory of parts for the Nintendo 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS, and New Nintendo 3DS LL systems is nearing depletion; this means that repairs for those systems will also end shortly.

However, the same post also advises that Nintendo will continue to accept New Nintendo 2DS LL consoles for repair; there’s no indication that stock levels for parts for those consoles are nearing critical levels at this stage.

Despite the sad news, especially for owners of the affected consoles who still actively play them, given that the New 3DS model of Nintendo’s console was launched back in 2014 in Japan and was discontinued in 2017, it’s perhaps surprising (not to mention admirable) that support for repairs has lasted so long.
