An incredible new fan-made Legend of Zelda and Studio Ghibli mashup in Unreal Engine 5 has just been shared by Rwanlink.

And as a very serious fan of all things Zelda and Ghibli, this is looking like something from my actual dreams.

Rwanlink is a very familiar name here at Retro Dodo, since they are also the creator of several viral Zelda in Unreal Engine videos that have made the social media rounds over the years.

But this latest video is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, and it has us absolutely drooling over the details and the what-ifs.

Do yourself a favor and watch the teaser below right now!

The upcoming full length video is titled “Castle Town”, and it combines elements of The Legend of Zelda with the aesthetic of Studio Ghibli films.

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom certainly borrow from the Ghibli aesthetic quite a bit, and I do not think that is supposed to be a secret.

But Rwanlink took it a step further and actually included Ghibli characters in the Castle Town world. Which Ghibli characters might appear and how big their role will be is one of the details we’re most exited for in the full video release.

As Rwanlink has indicated in the description of the Youtube video, this fun project has been in the works since August. And it is only a teaser for a full video set to debut on November 21st.

Rwanlink has created over 30 characters in Unreal Engine 5 and has built a world that feels very alive. And like an absolutely beautiful place to be.

It is the obvious statement to make, but I’d love to play this as a game, even if it were just a short experience.

But all indications point to this being a short film only. We have no reason to believe that this is a playable game experience, and we definitely do not expect to ever have access to it.

I’m not complaining, though. If a fan film is all we ever get out of this exciting project, I’d be more than satisfied.

Needless to say, we’re very eager to see the full short film release on November 21st.

We are already blown away at the detail and the blending of aesthetics from Zelda and Ghibli.

If you’re a fan of the films from Studio Ghibli or the best Zelda games, this video surely hits some special places in your heart.

Definitely subscribe to Rwanlink’s channel in anticipation of the full release, and check your Youtube feed on November 21st.

If you’re a fan of these kinds of projects, we also highly recommend The Memoria Project, a stunning Final Fantasy IX remake in Unreal Engine 5.
