Nightdive Studios, the incredible team behind the recent remasters of System Shock, Doom 64 and more announced that they are now a part of the legendary Atari family.
Reportedly (via Yahoo Finance), Atari has began the payout of €30 million in bonds convertible into new Atari shares.
But let’s be super clear: this partnership is absolutely mutually beneficial.
Atari has some of the strongest legacy in video game history. And Nightdive has the talent, IPs, tech, and publishing.
Everybody wins. Including us, the gamers.

Nightdive Studios has made their name by creating awesome remasters of classic game titles like Quake, Doom 64, and Turok 1 & 2.
One of Nightdive’s earliest achievements was their own acquisition of the System Shock franchise. Which now becomes an Atari property.
Their remaster of System Shock is due to release in just a couple of months.
Nightdive also have their own proprietary game engine, KEX, that is now at Atari’s disposal.
On Twitter today (March 23rd), Nightdive described the acquisition as a “big win for our team!”, which we certainly can agree with.
Who wouldn’t want to be part of a legendary team like Atari?
The Future For Atari and Nightdive Studios
Nightdive also indicate that their purpose moving forward is to continue to work on game remaster projects.
Which makes us wonder – what Atari games might Nightdive be assigned next?
Atari just released a remake of a classic arcade title in their arsenal: Akka Arrh, which was an internal project developed by the original creator of that game, Jeff Minter.
But now with Nightdive Studios at their side, who knows what games could be brought into the modern era.
The possibility of a future Atari System Shock sequel, or a remastered version of something like Tempest or Marble Madness could be quite interesting.
