The world never has enough Gameboy clones, so why not add the Revo K101 Plus to that collection, a handheld that can play official GBA cartridges and emulates a handful of smaller retro consoles.
If you’re new to the world of retro handheld emulation, then you’re probably thinking “How are they allowed to do this?”.
It’s simple, just like the Analogue Pocket release, many other companies can do the same using FPGA, instead of the shady emulation. This means using official hardware to read the cartridges. But because China give little to no s**ts they’ve chucked in the emulation of other consoles too, because, why not?

The original Revo K101 was a pretty average handheld, coming in at 6/10 in our review. Now, many years later they have resurrected this handheld, in a slightly newer form factor, and a much larger price tag.
In all honesty, I think this handheld is going to struggle in the current market, coming in at a pricey $75 this is competing with high quality modded Gameboy Advances, heck, double that and you can get a metal Gameboy, made of pure aluminium!
It comes in two colours, the purple, which obviously pays its respects to the Gameboy Advance and some could say the RG351P, and you also have a famicom variant, we prefer the GBA edition, but we know many of you will love that red edition.

The Revo K101 Plus is primarily built for playing your best Gameboy Advance games, period. But combined with emulation it can also play GB, GBC, Sega Master System, Game Gear, NES and PC Engine.
But their listing doesn’t really sell the whole emulation thing, they use sentences like “sound and speed of the games is a bit off” and “the audio notes merge together and don’t sound correct, SMS, GG and PCE games run too slowly”.
We appreciate the honesty, but holy smokes, you’ve mad us click off the page quicker than a naughty pop up!

This is targeted at Gameboy Advance gamers only, with an included Gameboy Advance cartridge with a TF slot, allowing you to load all of your ROM’s to a cartridge for easy transport.
The Revo K101 Plus also comes with official ports too, including a trading port for that chance you ever come across another gamer to trade Pokemon with. Just don’t forget your trading cable it’s one of the best Gameboy accessories ever!

At the bottom of the Revo K101 Plus you will find your headphone jack, and a cartridge slot, plus on the sides, your volume wheel and your classic triggers and on/off button up top.
It’s a very basic looking handheld, and one that was very popular 5+ years ago, but the competition has changed and the best retro handhelds are far more advance than this, and are around the same price too!
There’s no official news on specifications as of yet, we’re trying to get hold of a sample, so make sure to stick come back in a few weeks for a full review and let us know your thoughts over on Twitter @retro_dodo!
