Nintendo Reveals NEW Pokemon Legends: Arceus Open World RPG

Today Nintendo lifted the hood on a new open world action RPG called Pokemon Legends: Arceus, a slightly different approach to traditional Pokemon games that many fans will certainly love.

It was announced in the Pokemon Presents livestream which was hosted on YouTube on 26th February, alongside Pokemon Legends: Arceus, they also revealed the new Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is developed by Gamefreak and looks as if it has taken design inspiration from Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The new game is based in Sinnoh, and in a completely different era compared to Diamond and Pearl, and the cities and towns are filled with vast wilderness because it was based long before the original games.

It has this sense of history that we’ve seen no other Pokemon game go back to. No more modern technology, this is an old era that we can’t wait to explore.

The open world looks huge, but we’re not sure on actual size as of yet, its probably similar to that of Pokemon Sword & Shield. The Mountain Coronet sits in the middle of the whole game, surrounding you with stunning sceneries constantly throughout the game.

Pokemon live freely in the wild here, in this era, people have journeyed to Sinnoh from across the land and found it a prosperous village in order to learn more about the land. It seems you 3 choices of starter Pokemon are Rowlett, Oshawott and Cyndaquill to choose from the professor.

Your goal is simple, to adventure out to the different corners of the region in order to make Sinnoh’s first ever complete Pokedex.

Even in this old era, wild Pokemon can be caught with Pokeballs and you can enter battles with wild Pokemon with your very own Pokemon in a way that’s not traditional and almost looks live, but its still turn based.

The battle scene overlays the black borders slightly with a brush effect that shows the Pokemon’s stats, heath, level and more. It’s as if the game goes into “cinematic mode” when in battle and your attacks and skills are easily visible.

The mythical pokemon Arceus plays a big part in the storyline and he shaped the world, but in no way did Nintendo reveal how he was linked in the storyline and we can imagine this is the main storyline for the game. To figure out how Arceus started it all.

This could be Nintendo’s and Game Freak’s new Pokemon series “Legends” finding out the stories and origins of these legendary and mythical Pokemon.

The styling is also very welcome, and feels like some of the best Zelda games that we all know and love.

The game isn’t what we expected to see from Pokemon, but the true open world action RPG aesthetic is something we can’t help but love. This must have been something Game Freak has been working on for a while and it’s good to see a new storyline rather than traditional catching, gyms and battles.

We will continuously update this article with any new information that we find. Perhaps Pokemon will tease more throughout the coming months.
