New Miyoo Mini V2 Revealed With Transparent Colours & Small Tweaks

It’s not often we see handheld manufacturers go back to do updates requested by community members, but Miyoo seems to have done just that with their release of the Miyoo Mini V2.

The latest variant of their popular mini Gameboy known as the Miyoo Mini comes with two new transparent colours, small tweaks to the OS and adjustments to the screens fuzzy screen which was noticed in our full review.

It is now on sale at AliExpress for £49.99 or $61.99 for our US folks.

This new iteration comes as a nice surprise especially when they already had two colours which deemed popular, there was the white with SNES coloured buttons, and the DMG grey with black and purple buttons.

As much as we didn’t think we needed a new shell, the transparent black and transparent blue has made us pull the trigger on it today, and that’s without the promised changes to the OS and screen.

What’s different between V1 and V2?

There are a handful of small difference between the Miyoo Mini and the Miyoo Mini v2:

  • New transparent colours
  • Upgrade 2000mah battery “5 – 6 hours” (up from 1900mah 3 – 4 hours)
  • Fully laminated OCA screen
  • Updated OS
  • Screen fuzziness bug fixed

There’s no real difference to the shell or even the performance of the device, they’ve simply smoothed out some problems and given it a new shell to entice both old and new customers who want on of the best retro handhelds for under £50.

But why?

Simply to make more profit. They have tonnes of these chips lying around, lots of screens, and the shell moulds so why not try to sell a “newer” variant to increase profits?

I personally think we’ll start to see more of this, especially with launch colours, and then further down the line when sales dip, then eventually handheld manufacturers will release new shells. A bit like ANBERNIC did back in the day, starting with plastic and then launching newer metal shells many months later.

It’s a great tactic if done right.

We’ll update this article with any new updates, or come back in a few weeks for our full review.
