How Much Is An Original Xbox Worth Today?

  • December 8, 2021
  • Seb Santabarbara

The most important question you need to ask yourself today is how much is an original Xbox worth?

Luckily for you, that’s exactly what we’re about to find out today!

The original Xbox had some fantastic titles that have since spawned some of the most successful series of all time.

Can you remember playing Halo for the first time, for crying out loud. And now the Master Chief is one of the most famous gaming characters ever.

It might have been overshadowed by the PS2, but the Xbox brought Microsoft to the scene as a new player and gave Nintendo and Sony some uncomfortable nights tossing and turning.

But does X mark the spot when it comes to fetching a princely sum on second hand sites?

Let’s find out whether you’re sitting on a gold mine or how much you’ll need to spend to add some Xbox goodness to your life!

How much is an original Xbox worth - black console with controller

How Much Is an Original Xbox Worth?

A used original Xbox is worth between $39 – $400 depending on its overall condition and whether it comes with any bundled games or controllers.

It’s over 21 years since Microsoft’s maiden console dropped into our lives, and what a wild ride it’s been since then.

This first console was an absolute beast and remains an instantly recognisable and iconic console from the 6th generation of gaming. I might have been on team GameCube, but I still loved playing some of the best original Xbox games on this thing.

Picking up a used replacement console doesn’t cost too much if you’re looking to play old games. A refurbished console can set you back anywhere between $41 and $237, while a sealed original Xbox costs anywhere upwards of $499.

Used: $39 – $400

Refurbished: $41 – $237

Sealed: $499+

How Much Is A Limited Edition Original Xbox Worth?

A used limited edition original Xbox is worth between $180 -$456 depending on type and whether it comes with any bundled peripherals or the original box.

The Halo see-through original Xbox is one of the most sought after consoles from the initial console run. It still brings in a pretty penny, especially if you were wise enough to keep your box safe in the attic.

Refurbished limited edition consoles can fetch anything between $200 and $800, depending on whether they have been refurbished in the original fashion or upgraded with new components to work on newer television.

Remember to double check before buying if you don’t want a console that has been tinkered with.

Brand new limited edition consoles tend to be pretty rare on second hand sites, so expect to pay upwards of around $1675 if you’re looking to purchase one.

Or, if you have one to sell, then get ready to earn some big bucks!

Used: $180 – $456

Refurbished: $200 – $800

Sealed: $1675+

How Much Is An Original Xbox Duke Controller Worth?

A used original Xbox Duke controller is worth between $12 – $35 the depending on the overall condition of the controller.

The original Xbox Duke controller was pretty damn massive. Just look how big it is and imagine trying to hold that in your palms.

Still, this controller was so iconic that Microsoft have released it for the Xbox Series X. Maybe it wasn’t so bad after all!

A refurbished controller will set you back anywhere between $16 – $34, so pretty similar to a used remote but with the satisfaction of knowing that it will work smoothly.

Sealed Duke controllers are also pretty rare these days, with costs coming in at around $149. That’s a lot of money for a controller that isn’t as good as the commonly used Xbox remote, but if you love nostalgia and have the money, then give it a shot!

Used: $12 – $35

Refurbished: $16 – $34

Sealed: $149+
