If you’ve replayed Devil May Cry 5 over for the 50th time and are itching to sink your teeth into a new adventure, then like us, you’ll be incredibly excited about Devil May Cry 6 dropping into your nearest gaming store.
It’s crazy how a game franchise that was supposed to be part of the Resident Evil Canon eventually became DMC. Capcom found that it didn’t quite fit the R.E aesthetic, and any game too gnarly for the R.E series had to be amazing, right?
If you’ve been a long-time Retro Dodo reader, then you’ll have no doubt come across the mighty Dante before. He’s arguably the most recognisable character from the series and has an amazing job – Devil Hunter.
If you’re also a fan of the Souls games, then step right up. Dante’s wit, Vergil’s strength, the sheer difficulty of the games at times; DMC makes for the full package.
These games are jam-packed with incredible features, and the if Number 5 was anything to go by, Devil May Cry 6 is going to kick off like a firework covered in swords and lava.
Here’s all the facts, the speculations, and release date information that we’ve got about Devil May Cry 6 so far, as well as some things we’d like to see from the new game!

Everything We Know About Devil May Cry 6 So Far

Devil May Cry 6 has to be even bigger and better than DMC 5, which is in itself is a hard enough task to comprehend.
It’s been 4 years at the time of writing since the last title dropped, so we know that Capcom has been working on bringing us what is now being classes as a long-awaited sequel for a while now.
Still, not as long as GTA fans have had to wait for a sequel to GTA V, right?
At the end of DMC 5, we finally see a strange sort of reconciliation between Vergil and Dante, even through their arguments are carrying on in the underworld even as I type this. It’s all a little tenuous if you ask me considering how Vergil had that massive Thanos vibe going on with regards to wanting to rule everything.
That leads us to strongly believe that their ‘partnership’ is going to be dominant in DMC 6 now that family ties have been repaired… or that things are kind of back to normal in the sense that they’re still bickering.
But I’m getting to speculation too early here – more on that in a second.
DMC 5 employed the use of live-action cutscenes as an option for players to watch rather than their digital counterparts.
Like Marmite, some people loved them and others hated them.
Well, you can be sure they’re going to be back again for the next game now that they’ve caused such a stir. But luckily, they’re an optional extra, so it’s nothing to get too upset about!
What Can We Expect From Devil May Cry 6 Gameplay?
Each Devil May Cry game is more intense than the last, and while the action is going to be even more of an inferno than the previous game with just as many puzzles, we’re also expecting a much more immersive and deep storyline with a the kind of feels we felt while playing Ghost of Tsushima.
Vergil and Dante have a lot of problems to solve, and there’s always the ever-present option here for one of them to screw the other one over at any given moment.
We just feel that something unsavoury is afoot, though we can’t quite put our finger on it yet.
Items, weapons, and costumes/outfits are going to play a huge part in the game as always, not to mention the powers and abilities that each character can call upon.
If anything, we can expect the powers to be enhanced even further, with new traits being unlocked by completing certain missions just like the Metroid Prime games or indeed any RPG you’ve ever played.
The battles are going to be so smooth and slick we won’t ever want them to end, which is undoubtedly going to keep us replaying this game another 50 times while we wait for Devil May Cry 7!
And finally, let’s talk about the world.
The levels in DMC games have always been incredibly designed. Still, since TotK, developers are having to rethink how players experience not just the world at face value, but the depth in which they can experience and essentially get lost in each setting.
Hyrule’s Depths might not be as gnarly as the Underworld, but we’re expecting way more explorative elements to uncover everywhere in DMC 6 off the back of just how vast games have become in the past few years.
The Main Devil May Cry 6 Rumours

One of the main Devil May Cry 6 rumours is the return of previous characters from earlier games, with chatter and other publications stipulating that Lucia may well be returning to the fold.
You might remember Lucia from her debut back in DMC 2, and it’s more than time that she took a more prominent role in the DMC series again
Another rumour circulating around the internet (and you’re probably not going to like this one), is that the next Devil May Cry game could actually be a remake and not a new game.
I know… I’ll give you a minute to process that.
I suppose it would make sense; we’re seeing a lot of remakes at the minute, and look how excited everyone is for the Silent Hill 2 Remake dropping on PS5!
We’ve already seen a remake of the first 3 PS2 games, so that means we might be about to get an enhanced version of the best selling DMC game, Devil May Cry 4.
Which Consoles Will Devil Mary Cry 6 Be Released On?

Devil May Cry 6 will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows and Steam. We would not expect it to drop on Nintendo Switch due to console constraints.
Hey, we love the Switch, but I just don’t see it happening.
It’s more likely that it might drop once we get the Nintendo Switch Pro, but even then it’s not a game that I would instantly asssociate with Nintendo’s target audience.
Devil May Cry 6 Release Date

Devil May Cry 6 is most likely to drop in Winter 2025.
If you’ve checked out our article on Resident Evil 9, then you’ll know that we’ve pinned Capcom as releasing Chris Redfield’s latest adventure in Summer 2025.
I think it would be unlikely that DMC and R.E would share the same marketing space, with a 6 month spacing between the two games being the more sensible option.
Plus, this would be a surefire hit for Christmas presents for gamers; imagine spending Christmas day kicking back with a beer and DMC 6. That sounds amazing!
What Is Devil May Cry?
Devil My Cry is a series featuring popular gaming character Dante and created by Hideki Kamiya. It’s one of Capcom’s most popular games and features fierce battles mixed with intense and often high-difficulty gameplay.
As a series, It’s not known for its ‘pick up and play’ gameplay, rather for 5-hour-long-stints with a bowl of snacks next to you!
The first came came out in 2001 for the PS2 and was supposed to serve as Resident Evil 4, the title that if you remember was originally only ever supposed to drop on the GameCube!
How Many Devil May Cry Games Are There?
At the time of writing, there are currently 6 Devil May Cry games available to play on consoles from the PS2 through to next-gen consoles such as the Xbox One and PS4, as well as on Steam.
That’s really not bad for a game that was meant to be a Resident Evil title, huh?
And yes, it’s a little confusing that we’re writing about Devil May Cry 6 and there’s already 6 games out, but stick with us.
What Is The Best Devil May Cry Game?
In our honest opinion, the best Devil May Cry game is the very first game released on the PS2 back in 2001. Sure, we’d opt for the enhanced version on the PS4 nowadays, but that storyline and how hard it hit the first time we ever played it just can’t be beaten.
That original story where Dante sets out to mess up the Demon Lord Mundus is still out of this world. Competing to get the best level grade possible was fantastic too; it made us want to go back and do levels again and again, discovering parts that we had missed the first time around.
Im always a big advocate of saying ‘the first title doesn’t have to be the best just because it kicked things off’. But in this case, it’s true!
Which Is The Best Selling Devil May Cry Game?
The best selling Devil May Cry game is Devil May Cry 4, with 5.4 million copies sold.
When Can We Expect Devil May Cry 6 Release Date?
Devil May Cry 6 is expected to see a Winter 2025 release.
